A partial solution to the censorship problem was to establish a "Grease Pit" category to which off-topic and policy violating content was moved. Those interested in rolling in the mud can go there to flame and insult each other to their heart's content. Further, this area of the forum is only visible to signed-in members so it's off-limits to search engines and those who happen to casually stumble upon the forum, so visitors need not be exposed to that garbage.
The surprising thing was that after implementing it, the need for it drastically decreased. I attribute this to the fact that troublemakers are often seeking attention and approval and relegating their flame baiting rants and insults to area out of the mainstream subject of the forum doesn't serve their agenda.
Mods have better things to do than constantly sling offendering content into the Grease Pit. And people coming to eplaya don't have to wade through all the garbage from a repeat offender before it's moved into the Grease Pit.JohnEBGud wrote: ↑Sat Feb 12, 2022 11:57 amIt seems though, over the past six years, and especially since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, the bad actors have become more strident and confrontational and now feel that they should be able say whatever they want wherever they are. I no longer have the patience to deal with such people so if they continually push back, they're gone.

Forums are communities and have community standards. Any given community standard must be interpreted in the context of all the community standards at large, just as any individual Burning Man Principle needs to be considered in the context of the other nine.
