possible trojan dropper in website posted by user: bigeloww

his link is also in his profile

Apollonaris Zeus made a warning thread about clicking the link

This is quite a step worse than commerce promotion, trojans are very nasty and some can allow users to gain TOTAL control of a persons computer. Alot are used on IRC to pirate software without the victim ever knowing why their computer is running so slow.

This is a perfect example of why new users should be moderated for a short length of time. Even if its only for 10 posts it will keep spam and attacks down.

if i were a virgo, i might have kept track of how many, believe me there have been tons... about 30 just this week, even with the visual verify mods. thanks for pointing these out, most were gotten in the sweep i did today, but i did miss one you got, so it's always helpful to hear from folks on sock puppetting.

Some of these sound interesting. Isn't there a way to make a post graveyard to move them to so we can laugh at them and maybe send a little hello message to the ones they are promoting? :) I always reply to spam. I figure if everyone did there wouldn't be a problem. :)

i'm not sure why you think "this guy" has been "still allowed" to post. i don't recognize the user ID as one i've deleted before (though there have been so many, it's sure possible). additionally, the post you referenced was the only post made by that ID.

i have deleted the post, deleted the user and banned the poster's IP address. this is what we always do. it's all we can do. if a spammer comes and creates the same account name from a different IP, and posts more spam, we do the same thing again, banning the new IP.

if we're lucky, they register from an email address that's not a gmail or yahoo account so we can ban the email domain from registering users as well (as we have in this case.) but there so many ways for spammers to generate their own email addresses and cloak IPs, it's impossible to fully BAN someone from posting ever again. they have resources to do this forever, and we don't.

i understand your frustration. if it was someone's full-time paid job to monitor this board and keep things clean, i'm sure things would be different. but that's not how it is, so it's probably best to just report spammers (without a lot of negative editorial comments) as you see them and your volunteer squad of two moderators and one admin will take care of them as best we can. spammers are tricky and i'm guessing they'll always be one step ahead.
