Page width
width:
yes. This is my only concern. if our pages are longer, then when someone posts something really WIDE, we have to put up with it for that much longer. It's more of an annoyance, than anything, but Spanky, is there any way to regulate that? I mean, if we're fixin' stuff....

I believe that is possible, but that belongs in a different thread. We're talking about page length (and now width here).
About width:
I thought I saw something to help the width nightmare out. Mostly that happens if someone posts a really wide [read: annoying] image or a really long URL without using the URL tag...or types a whole bunch without any spaces. I will keep this in mind. I've seen it before and been annoyed as well. There is also a CSS thing that might work:
overflow: hidden;
We'll investigate that shortly.

How do I get this thing to fit in my browser?

OK, it's Crypto, Spokes and now me. Previously I had width problems only when someone posted a long URL or a big picture. Now I can only read the posts if I scroll so far right that I cannot see who the poster is; this is tiresome. I never change settings on my machines once I get them set to my liking so it is not me.
Oh and previewing requires bouncing back and forth.
Anybody have a clue?

On work machine--so I'm reluctant to get tooooo experimental. But it's frustrating and for me it's been a regular feature even pre-revamp.Silver 2 wrote:Now I can only read the posts if I scroll so far right that I cannot see who the poster is; this is tiresome. screen pixels
Here's the difference for me: at work I have a large monitor set to 1024x768 pixels, no side-to-side scrolling.
At home I have a small monitor set to 800x600 pixels (if a higher setting is used it flickers & is hard to read).
Eplaya now requires side-to-side scrolling at home where it didn't before (except for the occassional large picture).

I have installed and am testing the Force Text Wrap MOD that will break long words with no spaces, like URLs. I think URLs will still work (testing)...
I know it's not that high on the list of priorities, but it was small, looked stable and it's Friday.
If testing goes well, I will integrate it Monday.

Hi Spanky, great work on all the fixes, but are Ludites such as myself with tiny 13" dia. CRT monitors running 800x600 going to finally be forced to upgrade? I really would like a nice 15, 17, or even 19" flat panel...I'm holding off only because this little Pavilion M50 still works so well. BUT...I want to see a post's author and message at the same time. Interestingly, the blank skin that loads just before the page is still at the smaller width. Is page width to stay as is? If so I guess I'll go monitor hunting. Or is there a windows trick to auto-fit you can clue me too? Thanks much!

AAAEEEIIIEE!!!! (ducking as several dozen monster CRT's come flying my way) Thanks philosopher heheh. Actually my tiny little desk hutch only has room for the current mini monitor but a flat panel LCD may be in the cards and it would fit + open up some room...but first let's see if I can set this one up so it doesn't flicker at the higher res...and is still readable without a SEM.

Yep, I've noticed it too. The MOD seems to work properly. It breaks long words with no space, URLs and such. And it keeps the link-ability of URLS too. Both http://types and BBCode.bullD wrote:sorry, nothing new to add except, yep, width has become annoying.
I will try to merge the branch in today, but I have tons to do for a JRS and Cafe, not to mention the Forums & Categories mockup I want to do!

I reworked the header to make it much more elastic. You should be able to size it to your window without losing the poster's name.Tiahaar wrote:...are Ludites such as myself with tiny 13" dia. I also made it take up less vertical space...less scrolling.
Also, there is a Force Word Wrap Mod installed that will break really long words and URLs. The URLs should continue to work. See the new topic for feedback on this.

YAY also even though...

heh, I just ordered a refurbed 15" LCD today too, well it was a good deal.

picture size
Greetings!
I see that this thread was last used a year ago.
Well, we are having the same discussion about large pictures on one
of Theme Camp threads now (30 March 2006) (Kamp Apokiliptika).
In a nut shell, large images force us to scroll from side to side to
read. Absolutely unacceptable.
My computer skills are minimal. Or less.
a way to manage picture size that seems to work, and even I can do
it. I open the picture in a program called Paint. (I believe this
program may be part of Windows, but I don't know that. It did come
with my Dell Dimension 2300 from the factory.) With the picture open
in Paint, I click on Image up at the top of the screen. Then Stretch
(Stretch/skew). There are two boxes in Stretch that have 100 in them.
I type in a smaller number, like 50 or 25. Then OK. This gives me the
new size of the picture, and this seems to be how it will show up on ePlaya.
Once I have a suitable size, I hit Save As. This is the file I then
put on Photobucket for use on any bulletin board.
On that other thread, more skilled people are talking about pixels and
other stuff I still need to learn. Much help is clearly available -- we just
need to put this info where we who need it can find it. Then it was
suggested I start a new thread on this topic, and I found this old thread.
Thoughts? Knowledge? Should I start a new thread called "Picture size"?
So much to learn.
I put together an experiment with two different sizes of the same photo.
I could post that comparison here if it would help the cause.
Most cordially,
Elliot you need a few carriage returns in there!
Hit the enter key at periods and you will not need to scroll all across the page.
Until this thread get to the next page that large picture is affecting auto word wrapping.
I think this is the wrong place because we are really discussing image manipulation not bug reports or eplaya feedback...
