Fundraiser - Elliot's Bicycle Camp and Piano Bar

Post by Elliot » Sun Jun 21, 2015 10:44 pm

:D
And we're off!
Lending and repairing bicycles has been central to my Burns since 2006. The last three years we have been a slightly organized little group with a cardboard sign out front suggesting we can fix bikes. Success, of course, was inevitable.

So now we are going big time. And how! THOUSANDS of dollars will be needed for everything from 20 cases -- cases -- of inner-tubes to more shade for our resident Fortune Teller.

Thus... We just went live with our Indiegogo campaign.

http://igg.me/at/elliotsbicycleservice/x/11087604

Please help us spread the word. And be sure to stop by our camp on the 4:30 Plaza, if only to complain about the crummy swag.

So far so good emperor!

Happy to contribute!

I think I chose the correct category.
When he lights his streetlamp, it is as if he brought one more star to life, or one flower.
When he puts out his lamp, he sends the flower, or the star, to sleep.
That is a beautiful occupation.

And he will need one, to haul all these bicycles to the Playa!
I mean.... Forget the buttons and amulets and such. It's the loaner bikes that are flying off the shelf! And these are "extra" loaners, that I added to the fleet specifically for the Indiegogo campaign. So, yeah... "We're gonna need a bigger bus."

This is something that nearly everyone on the playa could benefit from. If your bike breaks (or doesn't brake), you can carry it over to this camp and have it fixed for FREE.
A very worthwhile project to support.

Welcome to ePlaya, Anne! I sure appreciate the donations!
Hi, Ted!
Yeah, this is going quite well. I added more Loaner bicycles as Perks, so at the moment there are still four available in the $150.- donation category.
Leaving in a few minutes for Oregon, and won't be online again until next week. Then I will see if I can muster even more Loaners.

24 days to go too.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd like to see another item on the campaign: Gift This Camp -
  • any amount,
  • no swag,
  • just our thanks (and your knowing you helped bring this camp to BRC).

That wouldn't be entirely true as the camp would be there anyway, we just wouldn't be able to help as many people.

"bringing" is generally regarded as contributing anything towards what is provided. In this case, bikes, tubes, parts, refreshment, etc.. In short, anything that "brings" what the camp provides to the playa. If an item isn't donated/gifted to the camp, or you don't have the money to source it, it doesn't get brought to the playa. If you get the money, you can bring it. This is of course those things in addition to what you already personally bring to the playa, and that others have already gifted (donated to the cause) in one form or another.

But my main point was, instead of donations in exchange for swag or bike, how about the ability to provide a pure gift.

That's always an option Canoe.

When you hit the "Contribute now" button, the very first thing to greet you is a "No Perk. I just want to contribute" option, and you can give as little as $1.

I've never seen a campaign where that wasn't an option. And thank goodness. Little bits add up.

Then passed right by- And never knew.”

This is great news! The goal has been hit.

This fundraiser benefits the entire community with repairs of bicycles. Inner tubes seem to be the biggest need, but wheels, pedals, cables, gears etc. Elliot has done a great job in pulling this much needed service together for the community. In the past, it has been financed out of his own pocket. `

The fundraiser will help insure that parts will be available for most of the event, if not the entire event.

There are still some wonderful things available for small donations to this camp. You can still help to secure a solid inventory of parts with you support of this project.

Thank you to Elliot, Figjam and the rest of the camp. :D

Woo-hoo, indeed!
Just got back from Oregon an hour ago (well past my bedtime).
With the "minimum" reached, we are now safe from the higher commission they charge on campaigns that fail to reach that goal. The whole campaign will now cost only 4%, no matter what. Pretty neato.

As for "just donating", besides the way that was mentioned, there actually is a donation level where the Perk is "Absolutely Nothing". And there is no limit on the number of these. I dreamed this up for folks who have borrowed bikes in past years, so they can donate "retroactively". And also for those who are on the Free list, so they can donate "after the fact". And anyone else, of course.

So.... Shall we double it, and Really Rock the 4:30 Plaza?

I have some sheet music here, to add to the selection. Mostly Billie Holiday tunes. Anybody sing that stuff?

But I reckon we will need some device to hold the sheets still in the usual desert breeze?

In other news....
I am waiting to hear back from CherryBlossom73, who made the Gorgeous Thing, but meanwhile... I am considering turning the Manly Tutu she made for me into a big box of inner-tubes or pedals -- by making it a Perk on the Indiegogo campaign.

(The way I think, such a thing as this tutu is most enjoyable while it has novelty value, so it ought to be passed along every couple years.)

Thoughts?

Aaannnnddd.... The Manly Tutu is now a Perk! Run-don't-walk to the Indiegogo campaign, make a $99 donation, and find yourself rewarded with ownership of the manliest forest-camouflage-colored ballet garment on Playa.

Or... make a $190 donation and be rewarded with the use-for-the-duration-of-the-Event of a Loaner bicycle. There is only one left, and there will be no more.

Or... donate $111 and receive absolutely no reward! This is intended for folks who are already borrowing a bike for free (from before the Indiegogo campaign started), or have in the past, and wish to contribute on par with Perk recipients. Of course, there will be swag for you.

And... there is plenty left of swag-Perks for the smaller donations. And of course, you can also decide on any donation amount yourself.

And... if you have $500 laying around doing nothing... there is now a Perk called Title Sponsorship. See explanation in the campaign, and contact yours truly to discuss. (Nothing commercial, of course.)

Only 9 days left!

I couldn't find the answer in all the information about this art project: are you going to burn it?
