Looking for artist - Tarot Cards

Post by shjermind » Fri Feb 03, 2023 1:27 pm

Hi, we would like to create Burning Man-themed tarot cards as playa gifts for next year. We would like to get donations of art for the cards from Burning Man artists, ideally from artists with a variety of styles.

We will print and distribute the cards for free. Of course, the artists will also get some of the decks for distribution.

We are thinking of flaming staffs like the ones used by fire dancers for wands, cups we carry around t the Burn for cups and a burning man map motif for pentacles. Not sure about swords-anyone have suggestions?

Let’s keep the art close to the Rider deck or at least incorporate the elements so the decks can be used by beginners who need the visual prompts. Thank you.

That is a nifty idea you have there.

Could be a fun project.

78 cards total.

22 real interesting cards in the Majors.

Will be a really BIG project, even if you just did the major arcana.

I’ll be a bit bold here and suggest you make this a whole bunch more specific rather than presenting just a grand idea.

Maybe put in some legwork for this; set up some kind of digital platform, a wiki, a photo gallery, a web site blog gizmo … something that says “I’m invested into making this a reality” and not just a broad and vague idea.

Let’s say you set up a wiki with the 22 majors, each one with a dedicated page describing the card. Maybe a blurb on what would be a fun BM interpretation of the card.

Bottom line … you need a bit more ground work to crowd source this if all you are contributing is an idea and logistics. Gotta put some sweat equity into this.

Good luck.

I love this idea. Perhaps you can put together a page of specs and see what submissions you get. I do photos and mixed media paintings and collages and would love to submit something for consideration when you pull the project specs together. Keep us posted.
