Painting a tarp

Post by stephen2u » Mon Jan 15, 2024 2:58 pm

Has anyone ever painted a water proof tarp With spray paint, I can scratch it off, should I wash the tarp in hot water to get the water proofing off, this is for a burning man project I’m trying to get to the playa this year?
If burning man really what’s to fix itself just put a name on the ticket of the buyer, and checked at the gate, so no scalping on tickets, if you can’t make it return to ticketfly for full refund, then the ticket is resold at face value.

Any paint on fabric or anything that flex's or blows in the wind will have paint fragments chip off and become MOOP. Not sure what you are wanting to do but consider using canvas or other cloth and RIT dye.

BTW your signature is a little offensive. It comes off as "You dummy's don't know what you are doing, let me correct you." Of course someones thought of that. Popeye

Came back to say, How does an awning maker get different colors on their canvas? Might be an avenue to look at.

The ONLY paint you ever want to use on anything flexible, and outdoors, is called One Shot. It's what an awning painter would use. It's marketed as sign painting paint.

Use a heavy, decent quality tarp if you are going to do this. DO NOT USE BLUE TARPS for anything burning man.

Awning manufacturers use heat transfer, eradication or other processes that require specialized equipment.

FIGJAM i have met you back in the day, your the5 gallon bucket cooler guy, and you made your camper, and if I remember right your in Arizona, on the tarp it’s a canvas tarp and whether treated, I’m thinking of installing stalling some of my plastic prints in it and painting the rest of the picture on it 10x8 feet, I’m thinking maybe I should wash it in hot water to remove the treatment and the paint should stick better. And by the way last year’s burn was the best burn ever, I love the rain.

MOOP may be caused by paint bits breaking off and falling off when they are put on fabric or anything else that bends or blows in the wind. This can happen with any kind of paint. Despite the fact that it is not quite apparent what it is that you want to manufacture, you may want to consider making use of RIT dye and canvas or another kind of material.

There's also a typo in your sig, 'what's' should be "wants.'
