I'm making a bar cart that will hold speakers, a small bar, etc. The cart frame itself is pretty heavy, but I don't expect the whole thing to clock in over 300 lbs. Planning to roll it around the inner playa a fair bit (not just within our camp)— will 8" solid-wheel casters (2" width) work on the playa?
I've read a few contrasting opinions. If not solid wheels, would something like 10" pneumatic (air-filled) w/ treads on casters work better? Or do I HAVE to go the axle route bc of the dust? Really hoping to avoid axles, as it'll make turning the cart a pain.
(edited to add caster width)
Casters
Re: Casters
Garden Carts!
Usually good for 400#.
Had one rigged to my bike for years. Ice runs, hauling gear etc.

Re: Casters
The great variable is the playa surface. It can vary between firm and smooth to soft and silty to the point it’s extremely difficult to ride bikes on.
That’s why the casters are a bad idea. The larger the wheels, the better, and pneumatic tires handle the surface better.
The cart Token posted would work well. Something with bicycle wheels would roll even easier.

Re: Casters
+1 on larger diameter wheels.
Reduces the rolling resistance allot.

Re: Casters
the bummer with that cart design, is that the entire front axle pivots when turning. It can become pretty unstable the sharper you turn.
the cart idea is grand, but, get one with a solid axle, drag link and tie rod.
