Professional Sculptor Fabricator looking to join an art team

Post by ginadaloisio » Thu Nov 28, 2024 10:18 am

Hey everyone,

I'm a professional artist from Canada. I have my own art practice and I've also worked as a freelancer for the film industry and custom sculpture fabrication studios. Some of my specialties include, foam and clay sculpting, mould making and casting, hyperrealistic painting, life casting. I've also some experience in welding and metal fabrication and carpentry. I can kind of do it all!

I currently live in my van and travelling around America, as I'm a rock climber and taking time and space for myself. I really want to get involved with burning man in 2025, and would love to lend a hand in an artist's work as an assistant. I've never been to burning man but I think my values would really align with the spirit of the festival!

Here is my website if you would like to checkout my work and Cv:

If you would like to see my freelance resume and recommendation letters I'm happy to share that as well.

If anyone has any advice as well for how to make an entry into this world I am super open to any advice.

Thanks!

Welcome to ePlaya and your first burn!

The first thing you need to do is to set up a "burner profile" to communicate by email with the Burning Man Project and access their "Hive" and other information. Then you need to become familiar with art and ticket deadlines. Your van is a great setup for camping at Burning Man, but the site has dust and dust storms which take a toll on clothing and camping setups.

The world of art installations is extremely decentralized.

The organizing department is the Artery artery (at) burningman (dot) org, but they may not have the bandwidth to matchmake between artists. Our staff is very busy finishing last year and starting the next and there have been main office staff reductions of paid staff.

You could go through the past archives, and reach out to artists you might be aesthetically and geographically compatible. They might not be planning to so a project this year, but they may know other artists they can refer you to.

All of that is at https://burningman.org/programs/burning-man-arts/.

There is another Burning Man group Renewables for Artists RAT. Most of the art is installed in the open area out side the "city" where people camp. So it needs lighting for night so people don't run into it. The RAT group advises them on solar and batteries to run their artwork. They are https://www.renewablesforartiststeam.org/ Introduce yourself to them and their art project deadlines. They may come across a compatible artist. The RAT falls under the Sustainability work, and they have a webinar on

Another resource is the Burning Man Regionals. Each has contact info - social media - and you can drop you message with them in case someone is working on a project and is a match. The regionals have their own campouts and art at those campouts.

Burning Man Art Projects is another resource https://www.facebook.com/groups/408645952626168. You could post your ask there too.

You could connect with builder-maker spaces in Reno, the Bay Area, and LA. Sometimes projects are fabricated there.

If you want to become familiar with the art team, with that burner profile you can volunteer with the Artery. That is https://burningman.org/event/participat ... irst-time/.

We have a piece of land with a hot spring near Gerlach, NV, Fly Ranch. It has a whole collection of art in progress that has already been curated. Maybe one of those teams needs collaboration. They are LAGI? https://flyranch.burningman.org/ https://landartgenerator.org/LAGI-2020/.

Burning Man has camps. Black Rock Welding and Repair and the Iron Monkeys are camps that weld. You can search them and contact them.

There is RAT team webcast Saturday Dec 6 10AM Pacific time attached below.

Best, you are off to a great adventure!
