Flame King refillable cylinder as flame effects accumulator?

Postby rocco17 » Sun May 28, 2017 3:42 pm

I'm looking for safe, and cheap accumulators. Most of my projects use 20lb "BBQ" tanks... (I have also used lengths of 2" pipe.) I would like to find something smaller, and cheaper, if possible.

Flame King sells refillable propane cylinders (http://www.flameking.com/refillable), like these http://www.homedepot.com/p/Flame-King-1 ... /300488857 They are cheap ($10-15), and I thought they could be great for use as accumulators in flame effects projects... so I bought one to check out. I pulled the fitting off the top, hoping to discover that the cylinder would have NPT threads, but it doesn't - they don't have any taper to them, and have an o-ring to make the seal... has anyone else taken one of these apart, and found a fitting to convert the threads to NPT?

I know some people have used fire extinguishers too - but they also have "funky" threads.

Thanks!
