Hello all, I am in need of some advice when it comes to fabrics for use on playa. I am bringing a few art structures that I want to run about 8' x 3' worth of fabric between the different structures as an accent piece. I am not looking to use shade cloth or anything like that as they tend to come in sort of drab colors and I want something brighter. I have heard talk of spandex, but I wanted to see if there were other fabrics out there that people have used in the past that can handle the stress of playa life.
The current plan for anchoring these fabric pieces is to sandwich the ends between 2x4's on the top of our art pieces in an attempt to created more surface area of restriction to prevent ripping. These structures will be anchored and guidelined with lag bolts and rope.
Thanks in advance,

The wind catching power of 3'x8' is small. You might look at Rosebrand fabrics in LA. They have a large selection including digital printing capability. Scrim material is like shade cloth - many suppliers for that.
Ideally you would like UV resistant fabric, depending on how many seasons you are planning. Fire resistant is a plus.

Look to what a good tent is made from. Mine is 70 Denier nylon taffeta and has held for 4 burns and lots of fishing trips.
Sierra canvas tents are good too, and canvas can be dyed to whatever color you want.
Don't use whatever it is that blue tarps are made from and don't let it flap.

Maybe they would be able to recommend a fabric, although at this time of year they're probably pretty busy! . . . But their site has a FB page linked from here:

C&J uses rip stop nylon, which is also what kite makers generally use.
