Has anybody here designed an art structure for the playa more than 20 feet tall? I'm curious what the "standard" design speed is for the open playa. I know that Washoe County building code is 130 mph (for risk category II), but I've also seen people say that they design for 80 - 100 mph. What do most people design for out there for the larger structures?
Our structure is going to be about 25 feet tall, with a good bit of fabric, and we are trying to optimize the fabric and anchoring for wind loads right now.
I'm also curious about peoples experience with ground anchors - do you normally test them prior to the build to confirm design values, or go based on previous experience?
Thanks!

This guy knows a thing or two about building big out there ...
He posted a few things already.

Use google to search the forum. Much better at finding things that way. The BBoard search is weak.
