I'm writing to invite you to our art installation "Axis Mundi", and to swing by if you see us building and feel free to offer to join in the creating fun!
Our project this year -- as above, called "Axis Mundi," translating as Center World -- speaks to the center of your very own person, the pillar or spin point in the world of "you" --other words used for this are cosmic axis, world pillar, world tree, or even the Tree of Life. Some say it is the connection between Heaven and Earth, and it is within. It is the meeting place of all direction.
Our project may help a person ponder all of that and more...we hope!
Here is a mock-up of what the exterior will look like:
At first glance Axis Mundi is a hand-painted sunset-colored large structure with a crown that billows in the wind. Closer, one sees it is covered in heavy weight artist grade canvas, completely hand painted by yours truly, an enormous painting you can walk within. Its exterior features enormous silhouettes of celebrating women and other abstract imagery.
Inside you will find a sacred circle of life-sized sculpted female forms, all done in thick hand-cast glass (Wow!). This inner circle is comprised of glass women standing arm in arm, holding circle for you to step within, all carefully sculpted over months of hard work by artist-sculptor Jason Hickey. Burners will be able to duck under their arms and stand inside the circle of sculpted women. Here is a mockup of the interior, complete with overhead paintings and bells (not shown):
Inside are more symbols, bells ride the wind, drumming will be heard at times. It is a magical space. Burners are invited to stand within the circle of the feminine light, and imagine being witnessed, being held in divine grace, a space to find your very own Axis Mundi.
