Well... not really last minute.
The Westburner Baptist Church is hosting its own camp for the first time this year. We have excellent placement at the 3:00 Portal and some really fun events planned throughout the week.
What kind of events? Well, how about some good old-fashioned Book Burnings, where we sacrifice a book to the flames unless some wary participant volunteers to read it? That's not enough? How about random protests (requested by other camps)? Still want more? How about Daily sermons on the 10 principles? Okay, yeah, we didn't think you'd be super excited about that. Okay, well how about a Playa Pet service, where we take virgins and veterans and make them pets and parents and link them up with each other to explore the desert for a week and report back to us a Pet Report Card?
We're bringing the church spirit to the playa, but without any of that lame Jesus stuff (what a DOWNER!) In the spirit of the Burn, our camp will be almost entirely staffed and funded by donations, dues, and DIY. To that end, we've left some open spaces in our camp infrastructure to host last-minute or international travelers who are looking for a cool camp with a lot going on and a rather light workload (2-3 hours a day)
We're filling up our ranks first come, first serve, and have room for about a dozen(ish?) more people.
We are looking for anyone...
1. Involved in theater or acting (Church events and protests are wildly exxagerated - think Cacophony Society crossed with a fashion show)
2. Any comedians/performers/musicians (who are free to use our church space to perform)
3. DJs (specifically NOT EDM DJs [sorry, there's just a million of you] unless your beats are as dank as Osigh's -- more like a time traveling DJ from 103.9 WDRE in Philly from the 90s), specifically DJs who can help out with sound/music equipment (we aren't looking for anything crazy, just big enough to be heard in camp)
4. VIDEOGRAPHERS -- We would *really* like to record our camp activities to try and make a small documentary (or maybe just keep historical footage for our first year) so anyone who has experience filming and is willing to bring their equipment into the dust PLEASE contact us.
Anyone interested please send an email with your basic information to [email protected] and any questions you have and I will answer them as fast as I can!
