Anti M's Home for Wayward Art 2016 5:15&E

Postby AntiM » Mon Dec 07, 2015 5:37 am

This will be our 16th year on the playa, 11th year of the Home. I already have art in hand, ready to go! Basically, we are a daytime art gallery, where you can adopt a piece of art, and give it a new forever home. Each morning, I fill the Home with carefully chosen pieces, take a picture, and let it go. All the new "parents" need to do is read the instructions, fill out a small card and clip the card to the chickenwire. And love their art, of course!

Where does the art come from? I paint a lot of original pictures, make collages, and comb thrift shops. So do my campmates, bringing photographs, mixed media, and woodblock prints. I have friends who no longer attend, some who are not even burners, who make art for me to give away. There are a number of talented contributors right here on eplaya, and I am grateful and proud to offer their works, and the amazing art they find in odd places. Random strangers bring art and leave it for others! It is a marvelous collaborative effort. I love the Home, I love the people who make it happen, and I love hanging out and chatting with people adopting art.

Established in 2005, Anti M's Home for Wayward Art is a place for small art, medium art, amateur art, but especially Bad Art, Lost Art, Found Art, Art which Needs a Good Spanking, and of course, Wayward Art. This is not a gallery, it is more like juvenile detention for art, an orphanage, a half-way house for misfit art. All art in the Home is up for adoption, all the prospective new parent needs to do is fill out a small adoption form and clip it to the Home in place of their newfound art darling. Art may also be committed to the Home, just put it securely in place and say good-bye. While the emphasis is on visual art such as paintings, drawings and photos, other mediums such as sculptural art, jewelry, and trinkets found their way into the Home to be scooped up and loved. Costumes, MOOP, food, and your abandoned sign too bulky to haul around are not within the parameters, thank you. If you are donating many items, do leave them in the back, in the shade structure with a note.

Why? I love to paint, I love to do miniatures, I love to give things away. Based on the concepts of art and gifting, I came up with the Home. Why Bad Art? While I am quite good at miniatures, I am not always pleased with my products. I also glean art from thrift stores and friends and family and yard sales. Some of the most fabulous donated pieces have been dumpster diving finds.

I am grateful that sending art to Anti M's gave me a way to participate in art and gift-giving before I'd even set foot on the playa. Now that I'm a "regular," it's a favorite place to visit on-playa, and to sometimes adopt art from!

We usually are remarkably easy to find, if you have the address. We're in Hushville, so if you can find that on the map and have the Man side street, there we are!

Me too. I have a show in June too, so I need to get moving on that, and some other work for another venue too. I don't much feel like painting, even sitting hurts some days. I am looking at my reconstruction surgery on my gut in June, so I have already decided that our regional burn is out of the picture.

AntiM,

It is a skeleton sitting in a chair and it says "ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK." It's in a lovely leopard frame with a howling coyote. It is especially apropos because my spouse was life-flighted out of Burning Man on Wednesday. Barely got out alive. BUY THE LIFE FLIGHT INSURANCE fellow burners.

That's Bucky and the sign we use for RHPS shadowcast. Took the picture in 2006.

I hope your husband is okay now. That is scary as hell!

He is. At least we know the medical care at the burn in an emergency is top notch. I don't know if buying the life-flight insurance was a premonition or a jinx.

Well, things are moving along at their own pace. The art must flow, but I think the wayward side of things may be seriously ramped to 11.

A week away from my show, I will most assuredly be exhibiting wayward art. Ah, well, it will be good for a chuckle, pricing art I will give away in the desert later.

Health is improving. More energy, more ability to paint. I am disappointed, I dropped one of my larger canvases and it punched a hole right into another one. Maybe something could be crawling out of the hole?

I love the idea of incorporating the damage into the painting! If you do that, we'll definitely be hoping you'll show us a picture of it here.

So glad you're feeling better!! YAY!!!! :D

Yes, please! If it is just one or two pieces, then just put them up. If you want me to see them, or there are several pieces, bring them around behind the trailer into the shade structure. That way I can integrate them into the "art flow". I appreciate art donations very much, that is the soul of the Home. Thank you!

I picked up a piece of really bad art today. Free at a yard sale. I'm gonna paint tonight. This is something I never do so it should be interesting.
