Eridu's Brainy Bar!

We had 3 wonderful years with our Ziggurati installation, but in 2016 Eridu Society is planning something new..... The Brainy Bar!

Here are a couple quick renders to show where things are headed. First, a front view (without the bar or seating in the main shade structure)...


And then a 3/4 view, to give you an idea of the camp's layout.

The Brainy Bar space will be a 30x20 aluminet shaded space, which we'll fill with art, seating, and of course a bar! Each day, the bar will serve two different drinks (one with, and one without alcohol) and feature a topic of conversation. Like the Burning Man art theme, you're welcome to talk about or join in the conversation with other burners on that subject, or ignore the daily topic and talk about something else. We'll also have our popular rubber stamp bar, and we're planning to make some fun new stamps for this year as well.

I'm very pleased to announce that we have been placed - we will be on Cosimo at 4:45 (that is, on C block, somewhere between 4:30mand 5:00).

Trillo. I'm so glad I stopped by your camp, climbed your structure and pondered it's construction. (I may have hung out up there way past my welcome but nobody said anything.) Now, I'm looking forward to stopping at your camp and trying to keep up with the topic of the day. BTW, Last year you gave a short run-down of how your camp is organized. Everyone is kicked out etc... I loved it. Do you have a group of intellectuals? Thank God for spell check. Can the topics be something simple like "Is it ok to bathe your nether regions in public?"or "Should you stop at every intersection or just plow?" Maybe I better find that 'drunk posting' thread.

No way you'd wear out your welcome, Ratty. I'm glad you came by and had fun!

While we haven't decided on the various daily topics at this stage, I doubt they'd end up being thought of as intellectual per se. It's more likely to be whimsical and fun than anything else, and it's really only a starting off point at best. Our camp roster does change from year to year, we do have some pretty smart and talented people in the mix every single time.

That's difficult to say - placement doesn't typically get announced until early July, and the forms don't even open up for us to submit them for a couple more months. We'll post more info as we're able to.

I am curious. What program did you use to render your camp concept? That is really cool looking.

Thanks for the kind words. The pre-viz is done using several different apps. The process usually starts with bar napkins and sketches on tablets, then moves into Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, and then things are brought into Maxon's Cinema 4D. I also use Adobe Photoshop and Filter Forge for designing textures and materials, otherwise it would wind up looking more like this...



That's still fun, and totally works from a basic camp planning perspective, but not as much fun since we've got the software and computing horsepower. If you don't already have something around that you can use for your camp, there are a bunch of free and very inexpensive apps out there that will let you block things out really nicely.

We are currently using Visio for just an overhead basic design but nothing that would render the nice 3-d that you have accomplished.

Plans are starting to come together! I think the daily (and probably also nightly) whale watching tours aboard the land yacht will probably be a thing, plus we've got a few more things up our sleeve. We've had great experiences in years past in the 9:00 and 7:30 neighborhoods, but this year we'll be aiming for the 4:30 neighborhood.

I like the idea of a daily topic to get the conversation going (if even by ignoring it), as well as the express encouragement to be a bit brainy/nerdy/etc.

Thanks! The side walls use all white extra heavy-duty tarps. They're attached to the top of the conduit frame via ball bungee, and then also bungee'd to a conduit rail that's anchored to the ground.

Locking casters for the bar cart have arrived, with a few other pieces on the way. The designs and art are coming along, with building expected to start in the next few weeks.

Trilo it's great! The first rendering of your bar area took me by total surprise. My mind saw a skyline of the city. Took me a second to focus. Nice shot of the Land Yacht. The posters are impressive too. Great job.
