2022 Field Recording for Public Radio

Post by some seeing eye » Sun Oct 09, 2022 4:02 am

I am a huge fan of Calvino's Invisible Cities. It is short, imaginative, and poetic.

We always say that there is no way to describe the burn, even in video, it has to be experienced.

The audio link is a string of field recordings you can read Calvino to.

The text content is known to burners, read it later or skip.

One of the problems of burning man video recordings is that capturing sound is difficult. Wind is the enemy of live sound. So audio recordists use all kinds of wind shields and fur to hide wind from the microphone. Most burning videographers don't bother. Then back at the studio, they just use EDM as the soundtrack. We are very spoiled by sound in movies. Movie sound employs all kinds of tricks to create perfect sound. It is common in club scenes to video the live actor lines with no music, while everyone dances in sync with an EDM background dubbed in later.

This one begins with the Diva Aria opening Thunderdome. Some people are annoyed by KCRW representing the middle age to older wealthy LA public radio donors, but they have budget to do good niche work.
