Anti M's Home for Wayward Art 2017

Freshening up last year's post:

This will be our 17th year on the playa, 12th year of the Home. We are a daytime art gallery, where you can adopt a piece of art, and give it a new forever home. Each morning, I fill the Home with carefully chosen pieces, take a picture, and let it go. All the new "parents" need to do is read the instructions, fill out a small card and clip the card to the chickenwire. And love their art, of course!

Where does the art come from? I paint a lot of original pictures, make collages, and comb thrift shops. So do my campmates, bringing photographs, mixed media, and woodblock prints. I have friends who no longer attend, some who are not even burners, who make art to gift. There are a number of talented contributors right here on eplaya, and I am grateful and proud to offer their works, and the amazing art they find in odd places. Random strangers bring art and leave it for others! It is a marvelous collaborative effort. I love the Home, I love the people who make it happen, and I love hanging out and chatting with people who are adopting art.

Established in 2005, Anti M's Home for Wayward Art is a place for small art, medium art, amateur art, but especially Bad Art, Lost Art, Found Art, Art which Needs a Good Spanking, and of course, Wayward Art. This is not a gallery, it is more like juvenile detention for art, an orphanage, a half-way house for misfit art. All art in the Home is up for adoption, all the prospective new parent needs to do is fill out a small adoption form and clip it to the Home in place of their newfound art darling. Art may also be committed to the Home, just put it securely in place and say good-bye.

Art may also be committed to the Home, just put it securely in place and say good-bye. If you have multiples of similar pieces, please bring them around to the shade structure. That way I can place them mixed in with the other art so one theme does not become overwhelming. While the emphasis is on visual art such as paintings, drawings and photos, other mediums such as small sculptural art are welcome. The Gifting Box is for even smaller items such as jewelry, swag and trinkets. Costumes, MOOP, food, and your abandoned sign too bulky to haul around are not within the parameters, thank you. If you are donating many items, do leave them in the back, in the shade structure with a note.

Why? I love to paint, I love to do miniatures, I love to give things away. Based on the concepts of art and gifting, I came up with the Home. Why Bad Art? While I am quite good at miniatures, I am not always pleased with my products. I also glean art from thrift stores and friends and family and yard sales. Some of the most fabulous donated pieces have been dumpster diving finds.

I treasure my two little pieces from your Home for Wayward Art...
one by you, Anti M, called Fire Bubbles (2013), and one by TK, (2015?).

They both live on my piano, so I look at them multiple times a day, and every single time I see them, it brings a smile and a flood of wonderful memories.

Thank you, Anti M!! :D

I have some art to gift, and I think your place might be the perfect venue to do so. I gifted some last year but have plenty more to gift. Please let me know how I can hook up with you this year.

I'll be posting our camp address later in the year, we usually are around 5 and D or E, and easily found on the street Manside of Hushville. I have a big sign. Basically, wander around back to the shade structure and see if we are in. You can put a piece or two out front right away, and leave the rest in our camp, perhaps with a note. Do attach personal info you want to share on the back of your art if possible.

The Home is usually easy to find, me, moreso in the morning.

I look forward to seeing what you have created! Thank you so much for considering us as a way to gift your art! :D !!!

Oooh, I remember that one! I usually recall them all, it is a weird memory ability for someone fuzzy on names and faces. I hope I have something appealing for you.

I might have eye surgery before the event, so that has me a bit worried.

Is that E to G. 5:15 to 5:30? I'm trying to picture where I will be placed at E and 5:15. I figure I'll be across from you.

Usually Kidsville is one half the block at 530 to 515, then Hushville 515 to 505, then smaller camps on the 5 side. Yes, we go back to G.

Just FYI, Kidsville was recently informed that we've been moved over to front on 5:00, spanning over to about 5:15.

I'm not sure, but I think that still leaves Hushville at 5:15, just stretching out the other direction now, toward 5:30.

Yeah. It's true. You will be a bit closer to Center Camp. The unofficial map shows the Wayward Art in the middle of Hushville. That can't be right.

Nearly time to pack the trailer, and I scarcely have three bins of art. Not very full, either. I am really hoping the donations roll in this year. I usually get some terrific stuff, but fingers crossed!

Of course when we run out of art, I just toss up the leftover stuff I carry around, and hope people like the really weird things.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!

The Home was a roaring success this year, we had sufficient art, although more would have gone too. Thanks to everyone who donated, that was thoughtful, deeply appreciated, and the donations were very popular. I haven't counted the cards yet, but I had a nice thick stack each evening. Thank you to my wonderful campmates who pitched in and helped with the Home, keeping it tidy, doing curation, and closing it up when I was not there. You are all much loved.

The only sad note is someone made off with Fernando, our Malebox. He'd been with us 13 years. Alas.

Interestingly enough, one of the rescue paintings which was adopted by a nice couple has a near twin on ebay. A twin which sold for $215! There are treasures at the Home after all!

AntiM and family. The Gallery was great this year. We loved being across the road from you. My camp mate, Abba Zabba, adopted a beautiful marbleized canvas in cool greens and blues. It's lovely. (I know how much work it is for you to do that. My attempt at marbleizing didn't turn out so well.) Thank you for continuing the art parade. It's always a pleasure.

Thank you. Did the marblelized piece have a bird or branch on it? A butterfly? Was it a block, heavy? If so, I didn't do the marblelizing, those were gifted to the Home on last day last year. A dozen of them. I just painted the edges and added the little stencil.
