Barbie Death Village returns in 2017!

Clearly the rumor of our demise was somewhat exaggerated. Back by popular demand, the sickest bastards on the playa are returning for their 18th year! As Barbie Death Camp & Wine Bistro morphed into Barbie Death Village our reputation and over-reach grows every year. But I promise: This will be the last territorial demand BDV will place on the playa. We will be back with most of the sub-camps you have come to know and love: Barbie Day Spa, Thirteenth Barbie, Black Rock City Body & Paint, Barbie's Wine Bistro, Camp Hooker, A Playa Home Companion, and Cantina Vida, just to name a few. But wait, there's more! Hang out in our shaded piano lounge or join us in a thrilling game of Fizzball. Barbie Death Village: We have ways to make you party.

As many of you know Barbie Death Camp has a nice piano bar on site, and we pride ourselves on having the piano mostly in tune. Sadly our piano, having bravely served three terms on the playa, is pretty much trashed and we're looking for a new piano. We are a little choosey: 1) It must work well (no broken keys, hammers, or stings); 2) it must not be an upright but rather either a spinet or console; 3) ideally it should be within a 40 mile radius of Auburn, CA so we can actually fetch it and haul it back to Newcastle; 4) free would be best. Also, if anybody wants an old trashed piano (the harp still works fine) you can have the one taking up space in our Newcastle Storage Shed. I'll even throw in a Barbie or two. Maybe somebody in the steampunk community could transform it into a piece of art. So, any takers?

Hey, Doc;
Down here in the Sacramento-NorthBay area, Craigslist is awash in free pianos. Shouldn't be much different in the foothills. And on Craigslist, you can save a search so you receive an e-mail every time an item that matches your search is listed. You can even include surrounding areas. Include Sacramento and pick it up on your way home from the salt mine.
With a common furniture dolly, three sturdy guys can handle a console or spinet if the truck is fairly low.
Good luck.

Elliot, that's where we got the last one (or was it last two?) from, and I scour Craigslist at least once a month for pianos in the Sacramento area. And you're absolutely right. The "problem" (I put it in quotes because beggars can't--or shouldn't--be choosers) is often they're already taken, manpower isn't available at that exact moment (though paying $100 for a piano mover is in our budget), or they're either uprights or have a significant enough problem (usually broken keys or strings) to make the repairs necessary for a playa piano out of our economic reach. But thank you for the suggestion, I didn't know about the email when something matches option.

Ever wonder why that free stuff is taken? It's because I emailed him, (after you), and offered either a 6 pack or $15. It always shoots me to the head of the line for free stuff. Sorry, I just really wanted that 1970's couch and ripped up leather recliner.
If your time is valuable, offer $20 for the piano.

Screen grab of the search for... Sacramento, For Sale, Free Stuff, Piano.
In upper right area, see "save search". You have to pay attention to the next page that opens, because it may not start sending e-mails unless you put a check-mark in the little box on the left. Go back later and make sure the check-mark is there.
Also, search... Musical Instruments, Piano, max $100, or some such.
(Couple months ago, I picked up a 1979 Kimball Console in Lakeport... which is absolutely like new inside. Almost half a note flat all the way across, but mechanically flawless. Free. They are out there.)
Oh.... That one in Dixon.... It does NOT weigh 900 pounds! Maybe 400. My Kimball Console... I can pick up one end myself.

Gold Country, in Pine Grove, $60. Posted a month ago! Mechanical issue -- as he says, may or may not be easy fix -- you'd have to look.
I see some other keys that are not even, but in this price range....

I have had several inquiries whether or not BDV will be back. Don't people read these threads? The short answer is YES! And if anyone would like to see the BDV May newsletter, PM me with your email address and I'll send it along.

Hookers & Makers is ready to kick ass, shock dicks and take names, and then probably sew your names onto your shirts or help you make a nice necklace with your name.

The fact that so many of our subcamps have not requested space probably the fault lies squarely with me. I should have mentioned it in the April and May newsletters, but didn't. I know Felony has a handle on who's coming back (I think we have maybe one or two new camps and The **** Dudes will be back as well) so hopefully we won't have to reinvent the wheel. I also know the Wine Bistro will absolutely be back again now that Lynne has recovered well enough from her stroke to attend with Frank and Don. I will make it a priority for the June newsletter.

This really has nothing to do with Barbie Death Camp but I thought I'd throw it out there. As most of you know there will be a total solar eclipse on Monday, August 21. Are there any Barbiebarians or burners in general that could put two of us up for one night in the general Bend, Oregon region? We intend to watch the eclipse in Madras, OR which is about 45 minutes north of Bend. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I did check out the hotels in Bend and everything is sold out except for one place at $1400/night and even I'm not that crazy.

This is a shout out to all burners in the general Sacramento-Placer-El Dorado-Nevada County region: Barbie Death Camp & Wine Bistro is having our annual pre-playa-party at my home this Saturday, August 19 from noon until 6 p.m. (It's starting and ending earlier because a number of us are heading up to see the eclipse in Oregon; thanks unjonharley, looking forward to seeing you on Sunday.) This is open to all burners, not just Barbiebarians. We will have beer, hamburgers (including veggie), and the pool will be open. Because this is a family-friendly event, unfortunately swimsuits should remain on...well, at least for a while. I live in Newcastle and if you'd like the address/directions, PM me.
Either way, hope to see you at the Meet & Greet 6 p.m. Wednesday.

You can count on it. I will have it taken care of after Amtrakathon. Can only trash The Sands one event at a time.
