I am interested in finding out more about your favorite camps at Burning Man. This will be my first burn and wanted your imput and maybe to hear some cool experiences you've had there. I once heard about a monk that you can drink tea with and I think that would be interesting, if anyone knows where I may find him? :?:

The 'V-Spot'. Where you can go to volunteer.

The 'V-Spot' is located right next to 'Lost-n-Found' and 'Playa Info' in the Center Camp area.

There are literally thousands of camps and many of them cycle out every year. What was there last year, will be evaporated this year. Travel down any road in any section of the city, and nearly all camps will be welcoming to you. Let the wind and the dust blow you around to adventure. It's really one of my favorite things---just heading out to see what I can find. Searching for a specific camp or group may prove futile.

With that said, Hair of the Dog is my favorite hangout spot. Great place, great music, great people. :D

Here are some of the favorites I've visited in recent years, in no particular order:

Skinny Kitty Teahouse
If you want to drink tea, this is the place. Excellent teas of both herbal and caffeinated varieties, ample seating, brilliant sound system, and an indescribably awesome space (much bigger than you might expect of a teahouse and completely unique structure).

Altitude Lounge
Nice bar on the ground floor, and comfy seating up...and up...and up...as high as 50' above the playa floor. Amazing.

Do More Now / Firehouse
Magnificent structure, swanky lounge, DIY art gallery, observation deck, and international vibe.

The Proud Cock
A real English pub. Not kidding, not a simulation, a real English pub with a big heavy bar, parquet floor, working fireplace, the works. Built into shipping containers in England and dropped onto the playa. Solid. Has to be seen to be believed. Really nice people and unsurpassed DJs IMHO.

Hair of the Dog
One of the best bars ever.

Duck Pond
They do dive bar right. Their opening Sunday dusk 'till dawn extravaganza is one of the best parties I've been to. Ride the Duck at your own risk!

ASTRO SHACK JaVa JoINt
Shameless plug: it's our camp so of course it's a fave. If you want to hang out and drink great coffee while reading poetry and listening to wild tunes and get into crazy conversations with perfect strangers, this is the place.

...and to amplify on a previous comment: recommend that you not drive yourself crazy trying to find all these places. Instead, explore the neighborhood, drop in on some camps and gift them with your time & attention & appreciation & participation. You never know what you might find. Extraordinary experiences just around the corner!

Mine, Battlestar Erotica.

Just kidding, we're not that exciting . It depends on what you're after but the best is just to roam aimlessly and see what you find. Some of the small random camps end up being the most fun. But as far as larger established camps I really like Voodoo Soup, the Dusty Poon Saloon, Spanky's Wine Bar, and Swing City.

Since I'm a day-tripper, I like camps with shade and a view.

Fave is probably Reverbia, it's on the Esplanade and has live acoustic music by very talented musicians, last year they were on the other side of the Playa from where I camped so after visiting them I'd head to Center Camp and from there a few shady places on the 10:00 side.

I like to visit Orphan Endorphin. They have the best beer and the friendliest people on the Playa.

"Favorite" is really subjective, and, just like the old joke about us Jews, if you ask 2 Burners a question you'll get three answers.

I prefer hanging out in bar camps talking with people, so I head for places like Fandango's Slow Burn Lounge, Lucky's Bar in Barbie Death Village, Egg Bar, or ones I stumble across touring the back streets.

Hi Kori,

I'm with the Wanderers. We're in a great neighborhood on the 3:30 area. Some of my absolute favorite camps on our side of town are DeMenthe (mojitos, misters and great DJs), Cereal Camp--serving...well, you get it..., Nothing Butt Art, of course, Barbie Death Camp and village, Champagne Lounge, Destiny Lounge, Oh, Dye with Dignity, oh hell, just go out there. Every year I find great camps, new friends and it's the unexpected that counts. Have fun!
