Placement is done! Street Names are done! Now, when does the map come out?

There is a map included in the Survival Guide that ships with the tickets, although it has a typo on the J street name. It should have said Juju and instead reads Julu. The online version of the Survival Guide is also up, but the map included there is a very low res copy and the street names are nearly illegible. I've not been able to locate the link to this year's hi-res map yet.

In years past the online map came out in mid-June. Don't know what's up this year!
Also of note is that the parking zone they had outside of L between 6 and 9 in 2016 is not shown this year.

According to info buried in the FAQ:

It's an image so that link to the history files won't work. Sure seems like they've been up long before early August before.

Yessir! I reviewed past map releases and they have occurred in early June for the past 7 or 8 years.

I have a theory that due to the playa water there are still a few options to go with and the footprint may be a little different this year so maybe that's why a map hasn't been put out yet. I know the layout seems like something that would be the same regardless but I do wonder if that plays into this somehow.

BLM has issued the closure order for a very specific area in the Black Rock Desert in the last few days. Now its up to the Burning Man powers that be to locate the city layout somewhere within that area that any residual water/soft ground won't be an issue. There is probably no option at this time to try and get the closure order modified to another area without a lot of surveying.

Info coming back from Juplaya is that the BRC site is dry and ready. It's been very hot in Reno for the last few weeks, no moisture. Very Potato Chippy texture. I'd anticipate a hard surface, low on sand snakes.

NICE! . . . Thank you for the update.

For the record, it's the exact same area as the previous two years, so I don't think there was any serious attempt at ground testing or changing the site. They literally just changed the dates on the map.

Just to clarify... do you mean actual snakes? or just waves of sand that look like snakes. If actual snakes, how big of an issue is this? Do I need some sort of snake killing weaponry? Snake trapping habitat?
Have I mentioned I am afraid of snakes?

You just need snake spray.

Usually not to much of an issue, as the playa badgers tend to keep the sand snake population down.

Waves of fine fine playa dust form snakes. Not usually lethal but you may experience face plant if your bike hits one

I've "heard" you may also break a rib if you hit one wrong while turning and land rib-first on the end of your handlebar. On a professional note: try not to do this on Monday as it may impair your Burn somewhat. Weirdly I still had a great year.

Is there an 2017 Unofficial map of BRC which is user generated and shows camp locations? Like this one for 2016?

Playa Snakes are bad. However, Ramps of Death, in all of their iterations, are worse.
Noted that the outer ring is now marked No Parking. Does that mean the off-camp parking experiment is dead? Kind of wished I'd known that when I mapped my village, but que sera sera.
Of course, you can just park on the other side, in the walk-in camping area. The denizens of that far away land are very friendly.

My buddy out there for 4th of Juplaya said there was a lot of water but plenty of room for Burning Man too.

Note that BRC 2017 does NOT have the 2016 parking area; it is once again no parking and indicated on the 2017 map.
We tried an experiment in 2016 with auxiliary parking at the back of the city, across L Street spanning from the 7:15 to 10:00 radial streets. While this repositioned approximately 200 vehicles — hopefully releasing their space for interactivity — unfortunately human waste became a new problem in this area. We are returning to our historic no driving, no parking, and no camping across L from 5:00 to 10:00 streets. Camps at the back of the city who face out toward the mountains will be happy to see the return of their unobstructed vistas.
...
For walk-in camping — located between 2:00 and 5:00 — park your vehicles across L street at the flag fence, and set up your camp outside the parking flag fence.

There are no such thing as sand snakes. Those are just baby sand worms.

Here is a map from Burnermap showing approximate camp locations. Its a fun place to see who your neighbors will be.

Maybe it's just me but I can never find a damn thing on the Burningman web site. After much digging I finally found the list of theme camps. Is this even in the menu anywhere?
https://burningman.org/event/brc/2017-t ... &yyyy=2017
Now if I could find this information superimposed on a map I'd be able to see who all my neighbors are & plot out where I want to visit.
It's probably out there somewhere but I can't find it.

Better that way. I'm sure we will see something soon.

The only official map you'll ever see that shows theme camp placement is the Playa Restoration map post-event. It's never posted before the event because some placed camps don't want to be public about where they are (adult theme camps, things like The Tuna Guys, etc).

It's a lot more Burner-y to engage with what's in front of you than to chase around looking for something else.
Start where you are.

Has the parking area outside of L between 6 & 9 been relocated? We will have a few cars we're looking to park outside our camp for part of the week. Thanks
