Red Herring at 9:00 Plaza and 9:15 has room for 15 more members, with a total of 60-80 folks expected in camp this year. Here's a little of what you can expect at Red Herring.

• Location! Location! We love 9:00 Plaza, so happy to be placed again!
• Hot gourmet meals provided 2 times per day, snacks between meals
• Large comfy shaded lounge area shared by members, great people- watching area
• Hot camp showers (bring your own water. our tank heats your water and drains to the camp gray water tank)
• Three private camp portas with locks, for use only by RH members
• Primo location near Arctica for easy ice
• Gray water tank on site
• Easy to flag down waste service trucks at our location
• RED HERRING Club, our interactive performance space and collective gift to the playa

RED HERRING

You are walking across 9:00 Plaza in Black Rock City. There’s a red door, illuminated by a single light, mysterious and intriguing. Curious, you enter. A long dark hall, thick draperies...
 
... you emerge into a sumptuous room, the salon of a decadent Aristocrat – forgotten and moldering, yet still retaining vestiges of elegance: tall walls with peeling wallpaper; a fire crackles in an ornate fireplace; a king-sized bed covered in furs; Persian carpets; oil paintings... Welcome to the RED HERRING.
 
Set in one wall is a theater stage where many interesting performances occur: magicians, poets, dancers, musicians, singers... a DJ spins but the audio here is more atmospheric than you’ve heard elsewhere on the playa: folksongs, whale songs, jazz, choirs, chanting, classical... a hunched manservant serves tea during the day and cocktails in the wee hours… and perhaps you’ll even be fortunate enough to meet the Aristocrat in person…

This is a parlor where many things have happened; can happen; will happen. It's a place to discover and share...

Further, we are very lucky this year to have a superlative meal plan provided by Andy Grant and his team from Grant Family Farms, an organic farming community in northern Colorado. Here’s what Andy is planning for us:

“After doing food on the Playa for 9 years, I have learned how people eat and how to keep a diverse group of people with different eating habits happy. Some people are partying hard and don’t eat on a regular basis; it’s important to keep good foods in front of them so they stay relatively healthy. I also gauge menus to put vitamins and minerals into their sweat induced bodies that mostly aren’t getting enough sleep. The menus I come up with will be heavy to the vegetable and fruit side. There will be plenty of meats for those for whom proteins are their thing. Others choose a somewhat more sedentary and relaxed approach to the Burn and like some regularity to their meals… We will serve 2 main meals a day: breakfast usually around 10-10:30, full with bacon, eggs, breads, cereals, fruits, etc; dinner is at sunset. There will be a full menu of meat, lots and lots of vegetables, usually including salads. There will also be menus for those that want to eat vegetarian. There will be crockpots and hotplates for 24/7 eating buffet style. There will be a couple refrigerators set up for 24/7 self-serve stuff (sandwiches, yogurts, snacks, leftovers). There will be a table with fresh fruit at all time.”
 
NOTE: Red Herring will NOT have camp-wide power, so if that’s something you require, you’ll have to arrange your own solution.
 
ALSO NOTE: Red Herring is not a “plug and play” camp – all members are expected to help out, chip in, clean up, and bust ass to create an awesome experience for their fellow campmates and our guests.
