Bwaa ha ha
It's been done, but...
Work backwards from your checkin time. Drive time. Exodus time.
Exodus time, 2016: Saturday day was up to an hour; going to 1.5 hours after the Burn; then down to zero wait by 3:00am-ish; an hour at 10:00am; around 2:00pm it'd jumped up to as high as 2.5 hours. After that it peaked at 9 hours at midnight, down to 3, up to 6, then 4, then 8.
What will it be in 2017?
Who knows...
Adjust Exodus and drive times by rain on the playa, rain on roads, accident on road, washed-out-road (only once so far this year that I've heard of), city locked down, large number decide to leave right after the Burn or daylight Sunday, etc..
Google eplaya on getting to Reno to catch a flight. There are a lot of things that can go wrong.
Including your ride changing their plans. So while arranging in advance sounds good, be prepared.
You can use the Notice Board at Centre Camp on the playa to ask for and hopefully arrange a ride from the many who leave just after the Burn. A surprisingly large number leave prior to the Burn.
Worst case, if you're insisting on staying for the Burn (we understand, but there's risk):
- Pack up on Saturday so you're all ready to go after the Burn.
- Have a sign that says "Reno (airport?)"
- After the Burn, get back to camp (this is crowded...), get your gear, your sign and get your ass out and stand out TO THE SIDE of the road that leads to Gate to Exodus.
Should get you to Reno. Likely to the airport. Offer to chip in for gas. Watch out for DUI or tired drivers!!!
If any of the long list of things goes wrong and you've missed your flight, know what you'll do if that happens. If you can't let that happen, then the consensus in the past is that one has to leave the day before your flight, preferably in the morning.
YOUR RESULTS MAY VARY!!!
You may miss your flight.
