I got lucky - my green man walked almost continuously across and my tickets are purchased. Got in the ticket purchase room by 12:04. Makes up for the last 2 years of sitting on my thumb for ~1 hr.

I refreshed right at noon, btw.

So out strategy this year is, I log into the waiting room as soon as it opens and my wife logs in right at noon. So far, her green man is way ahead of mine. Conclusion: the waiting room means jack all.

And this confirms it. Ha. I really don't mind not getting tickets, I do mind being led around like an idiot with regards to "waiting room" and all that.

Yes. I refreshed (really reopened the link) in an new window. It put me in the exact same waiting room countdown - both had ~20 seconds on them. I closed the new one, then the old one immediately sent me to the queue. I honestly think the refresh had nothing to do with my queue position, it was just the waiting room lottery doing its thing.

I personally can't stand waiting room systems, either. I understand why the ticketing companies need to use them (managing insane loads and preventing the servers from crashing), but have not yet found a system that I feel works totally seamlessly and smoothly from my perspective as a ticket-buyer. Kudos to Ticketfly for being one of the better ones out there, and I have to say that in the years they've been a provider for Burning Man they appear to have learned from previous years' issues and improved the process each time around. With other concerts and events I've gotten tickets for it often seems like things go the opposite direction.

I think what happens is that starting at (or around) noon they start randomly placing anyone in the Waiting Room in the queue. Someone that just jumps in at noon (or refreshes) is just added right into that pile, and sometimes they get selected to add to the queue right away. Makes it seem like the refresh (or not being in the Waiting Room) was just a con, but I think it's just luck of the draw.
They did seem to imply that people in the Waiting Room would be added to the queue first, but I think from a technical point of view, even you join now you bounce through the Waiting Room for an instant... I don't think there is a benefit (or lack of one) for being in the WR before noon. It's just a a lottery draw, and they keep adding the new additions as they are drawing from the pile...

Woohoo! I think this year must be karmic payback for last year - two of us got in and got two tix each (from different locales), the same two of us that never got past the strolling (crawling) green man last year. Our little group is all set - so there's hope, y'all!
