Biggest MOOP in the history of Burning Man

From 9/14/18 Reno Gazette Journal....

"The largest art car at Burning Man, a partially reassembled 747 airplane, remains parked on the Black Rock Desert two weeks after the event.

The plane was moved further into the hard-packed playa about 12 miles away from the Burning Man site, said Rudy Evenson, acting communications chief of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management in Nevada. The BLM manages the Black Rock Desert, a National Conservation Area, where 80,000 people gather every year in a temporary encampment called Black Rock City.

Evenson said the owners of the plane need to apply for a new permit to move the airplane now that Burning Man is over. All art projects fall within the Burning Man organization's recreation permit, but that has since expired.

YOUR BURNING MAN 2018 GUIDE: Your ultimate guide to photos and stories

"It was moved off the event site without BLM authorization. So its legal status is in trespass with unauthorized use," Evenson said of the plane's location on public land. "Bottom line is, we’re evaluating options for getting rid of it."

Just making reference to the fate of La Contessa, the circumstances being vaguely similar and all...

Did anyone enjoy the 747? We went the first year. It was interesting. We stumbled across it the second year as they were having a 'fashion show'. Nope. We had better things to look for. We rode past it this year. 'Look. Da plane.'

Comparing the Contessa with the 747 I think highlight a lot about how the event has changed. They're both big and kind of shit-shows but the similarities end there. The Contessa was emblematic of the Burning Man of old in many ways. And I hate to say it but the 747 is emblematic of the current trending ethos... I would absolutely not shed a tear if said rancher burnt that fucker down... but that's just me... And yeah it would be a waste.... Can you even burn aluminum?

They were both moved from the event site renegade like with plans to take it to "private land" when there's no road to get where they're going and that thing is going to crush whatever it crosses. Need a permit to move it now? That's going to be interesting...

And yes you can burn aluminum. You can burn it to bits with a plasma cutter, or build a ginormus fire around it and melt it to a puddle.

It has a permit, and it's going to be in it's private-land docking spot, which it's only yards away from, next week after ground prep is done.
It isn't moop, abandoned, unlicensed, or any of that other fake news.

I went the first year. It was yet another Ibiza-style EDM club. Boring. The second year it was unbearably more of the same. I didn’t bother this year. Burning Man is a place where you can conceive of, build, and destroy absolutely anything you can imagine, but more and more, people can only imagine yet another fucking EDM nightclub with shitty blaring music. Just like in default, but in the desert! Burn that shit down.

Reno Gazette isn't fake news. Apparently the BLM didn't get your memo that everything is A-Ok.

All I can say is one of the douchiest purchases, whoops I mean "projects," out there. There should be an award. I mean the film industry has the Razzies. We need something like that...

Yeah, it’s fake news. They didn’t talk to anyone who knew what was going on.
Do you really think the guys who put that many years of effort into it, and had to jump through more legal hurdles than any other MV has ever had to, and been subject to more scrutiny than any other, just left it?

And what makes you call it the douchiest project? Because too many people wanted to check it out and they didn’t roll out the red carpet for you?
The plane has not been abandoned and has a private property berth.

What’s your problem with it?

Damn, Captain you're pulling hard for these guys... Are you part of the 747 crew, or know something we don't know or what?

Seriously what’s everyone’s problem? Do you believe the plane has been abandoned as moop?

If that’s your problem, you’ve got no problem. That hasn’t happened and isn’t happening.

A lot of really cool people worked a hell of a lot to bring their project to the playa. Did you?

Abandoned no, still sitting in the desert outside of the BM permit site yes.

As for an MV, no. My campmates used to have one that I helped a little bit on, but all of that changed a few years back.

Yeah I brought shit to the desert this year Captain. Shit that people could participate in. Was it as big as a 747, no but we didn’t exclude anybody and we picked up our shit when it was time to leave.

What did you bring?

Oh fuck it

interesting responses, from folks who tend to support "art" in "all" it forms.
I mean, every year there are things out there that, to me, are pure crap.
don't see the size mattering, but yeah, stuff I don't care for.
Do I say they should not bring it?
Do I revile them for the money spent or effort put forth?
well, no.
"eye of the beholder and all that"
And, what do you care, where they park it?
I mean, really, you actually think they'd abandon it?
I'd bet there are well laid plans and permissions gotten, or in process, for keeping it somewhere near there.
Has no one ever run into unexpected delays? SNAFU?

Seeing people who supposedly accept others, and promote expression, deride something so much is sorta sad.....really shows the hypocrisy that is human nature, and those who point, usually just need to look in a mirror.

**full disclosure** I admire the effort put forth, but don't care for it, in general as a "thing" at TTITD, for reasons.

Yeah well I’ve never said I “support “art” in “all”it forms.”

I just don’t think a chopped up partial piece of a 747 is art. But art is subjective...

Full disclosure: I hate the 747.

As someone who has worked their ass of to bring different art projects to the playa and I consider myself radically inclusive, I’m still entitled to my opinion that this is a lame as shit, overly ostentatious display of wealth. “Look what kind of logistics we can pull off with millions of dollars!”.

And you know Cap, I respect the hell out of you, but for how many times I’ve seen you extoll the DMVs policy of ‘hide the base vehicle’, I’m honestly confused to see you defending this, the arguably most un-mutated mutant vehicle in recent history. Because what? It took a ton of effort? Yeah it’s a massive undertaking but where’s the ‘wow factor’?

Art is fucking art.

Taco Boy walking around the Playa with his junk in a taco was art.

Uchronia was art even tho it got used as a big-ass rave playground and a Lexus commercial.

The bleachers by The Goat Rodeo where the bullhorn heckled FKOs as they shoved their heads up a goat’s ass - fucking art!

No, Cameras, Photos, and DJz - not fucking art.

Once you get past the novelty of a 747 carcass as moop rubbernecking creampie, it is/was art, and for the most part it sucked.

Hey, I built a two story replica of a Humm-Vee way back when ... was that art? The tires on that thing were a fucking bitch!
