Camp Envy 2018: Burner community without tickets and "burn curious"...

Post by Professor Pickle » Tue Apr 10, 2018 12:14 pm

We're baaaaaaack!!!...
.
Couldn't get tickets again this year?
Can't return )'(ome to friends and family in the dust?
Curious about being a part of the burner community?
Are you a teacher and can't take time off work to go to TTITD?
Looking for ways to get out to the desert, but not ready yet?
Are you a creative spirit yearning to break free of "normal" drudgery?
Allergic to dust, heat, and sparkleponies?

If you answered YES to any of these questions, welcome to Camp Envy!!!...

"you may already be a member" - CS

We are an active, participant driven community, thousands strong, world-wide and connect regionally, on social media platforms and virtually (Second Life). You just need an electronic device (computer, smart phone) to get connected...

We are active 52 weeks a year, not just one dusty week...

We are seasoned burners, virgins, future burners, participants transforming curious spectators, educators, artists, scientists, witches and wizards...You make up who we are...Everyone is welcome to contribute their knowledge, skill sets, and creative endeavours...Send us links to what you're doing and we'll share it with the rest of the community...

No matter the reason why you won't be headed to BRC this year, we can help you get your burn on...

Through on-playa webcams, Black Rock Information Radio, artistic expression of all kinds, this is how we connect the disconnected and help inspire future burners to "get out there" to Black Rock City and genuinely experience what it's like to be be a part of the Burning Man community on-playa...

Through the magic of the internets, Camp Envy have connected directly with the playa without actually being there.

Last year, motorbikematt helped to get Camp Envy Temple messages physically to the temple by laser engraving messages and artwork on wood panels to be burned on Sunday in the Temple... Members of Burn2 in Second Life were interviewed on webcam and explained how the virtual community is growing and is having real world impacts on spreading the positive message of the burner community... Special broadcasts included art tours, group video messages to burners off-playa, and BMIR interviews... Embracing the spirit of immediacy, some Camp Envy members transformed screen captures of the webcast into works of art that were shared with the community... Some members make it back to the playa to volunteer with the live webcast, BMIR, and other departments and theme camps...

Can you zoom in a little to the right?
The use of a webcam and broadcast formats always requires consent of those who wish to be broadcast publicly and maintains the privacy and anonymity of the burner community at large...Camp Envy does not operate the webcam or have any association with the Burning Man organization, we're just their biggest theme camp not on-playa...

We are in the planning stages on multiple new projects to engage and inspire you this year...
You'll have a good time guaranteed, or your money back...

Why do we feel this need to connect to Burning Man?
From the Olivier Bonin film, "Dust and Illusions", here are a couple perspectives on the popularity of Burning Man from some of the founders of the experience:

"Burning man got there by people having a desire for freedom, because they are losing their freedom. They really are losing their freedoms. It isn't like it was before. I think that's why it's become so large, it's because they are looking for that last glimmer of American freedom, of that Wild West." - Flash

"Something's missing in larger society. It's a need for people to connect on a more real and intimate way. I think that's one of the motivating things that makes people want to come to Burning Man, it's because of what's lacking out there in society. So, Burning Man fulfills a need." - Danger Ranger

"It's my view that in this post-modern age, you can't even address those issues, until you address the underlying problem, and the underlying problem is worse than so much of the 50 years you referred to, is the disillusion of the cultural process itself. Communities are ceasing to exist." - Larry Harvey *more info on Larry Harvey's condition at the time of this post

Helpful Warning Ahead:

CampEnvy.COM is NOT associated with Camp Envy in any way...
It is run by a phishing spambot and does not play nice with others. Nobody likes a bully...

The actual member sites (which does NOT collect personal information or credit card numbers) is:
CampEnvy.Org and CampEnvy.Net.

This has been a public service announcement.
You may now return to your previous state of general paranoia.
