I'm wondering if anyone has come down 447 from the North side of Gerlach (coming from CA/OR) vs driving down to Reno and coming from the South? Is this a viable option for heading into BRC from PacNW?

Has anyone done that??? EVERYONE with any sense coming from the north does that. Reno is way south of Black Rock, why would you go down there??

I won't get into the logic of my driver last year but we went through Winnemucca all the way down to Reno and back up (Trust me not my choice). I just wanted to make sure that road was passable with an RV as I haven't done the driving before. Sounds like I save a couple hundred miles and much easier access to get in.
Thanks!

Other than gassing up every chance you get, it’s a road just like any other.
I’ve enjoyed my jaunts up and down spooky roads to BM over the years. Just needs common sense, preparation, and a sense of adventure.
Having an RV is bonus! You can pee anytime, anywhere.
So pull up yer britches and go.

Search ePlaya for gwally and NW. There are some downhill curves inbound S of Eagleville which can cause a crash if you are speeding. There is open range in NV where you don't want to crash into a cow on the road. Don't swerve for jackrabbits.

I've done this route at least 14 times both directions. It is a country road that has not been brought up to what one might call current engineering standards. It is narrow with no shoulders to speak of. Only pull off the road in improved areas. There will be decreasing radius turns, blind corners and steep hills. Take it nice and easy and go slow on all the downhills. Don't push that RV too hard or you could never make it to the event. Thousands of us take that route every year.

The best part during exodus is turning off at the fork onto that empty highway going north, at full posted speed-limit speed, and looking back in the rear-view mirror to see the endless line of cars crawling off into the horizon towards Reno. See ya folks!
