Hi Burners!
This year I am bringing my repurposed/rehabbed school bus to the Burn from Chicago. Due to Insurance regulations, it needs to be driven by an experienced CDL driver. If that is you, and are looking for a fun road trip with a group of amazing people, please let me know! I am also willing to help with anything you may need for the Burn in exchange!

Colin, did you register the bus as an RV?

If not, that is what you need to do.

Once it becomes an RV, the CDL requirement should go away.

Is the bus longer than 40’ or somesuch?

Every state has different laws about this situation. Chicago to BRC goes through a few with pretty wonky rules, much more complicated than just CA/NV.

Only if you're required to have a CDL by the feds. OP suggests that the CDL requirement in question here is from their insurance provider, not actually a legal requirement for the drive.

CDL "commercial drivers license" is regulated by the federal government not the state, if registered as a "bus" would need a cdl with passenger endorsement, if registered as "rv" you would not.

Hey Token! The bus is owned by my company so it cant be registered as an RV. Hence the CDL

Yep, my insurance provider requires us to have one. I have all the necessary registration in place. Just need a driver!
