No Presale for 2019?
No Presale for 2019?
Dare I hope that it seems like someone heard us, and they decided to drop the presale class stratification and get everyone back in the main sale for their ticket rather than something to let them scalp their $1200 golden parachute?

Do you think that's it? Or could it be that the government wasn't functioning for a month and could have impacted the permit process pushing it all back?

I can’t imagine the org would do away with all that easy money...
Oh my god, it's HUGE!
Re: No Presale for 2019?
I'm with Lucky on this one. That's eeeeasy money. No way they'll pass it up. I don't mind the presale... except for when it's used as a "just in case" cushion for people who just sell them back immediately after they get a main sale ticket. If you can afford a presale ticket, get a presale ticket & enjoy TTITD. Before last year I didn't mind the resale process of presale tickets as much because in the month before the burn, they were being sold well below face value... but last year we officially hit critical mass & even presale tickets were being snapped up as soon as they were offered up.
Re: No Presale for 2019?
A camp mate scored a $1200 ticket for $500, but it wasn't until gates were about to open...
Sooner or later, it will get real strange...

Re: No Presale for 2019?
More and more people are getting stuck with their $1200 presale tickets. The scenario is a bit painful, as they buy 2-4 presale tickets for $1200 each, then are able to score some cheaper tickets. Instead of just using the presale tickets, they are now in a desperate scramble to sell them to anyone for any price. Imagine $4800 worth of tickets just not getting used.ACfromSAC wrote: ↑Fri Feb 01, 2019 8:39 amI'm with Lucky on this one. That's eeeeasy money. No way they'll pass it up. I do, and I have to giggle a bit knowing they are out the money.
Then I have to get bent out of shape as it also means someone else lost a chance to get a lower price ticket in the general ticket release.
As the camp evolves.....
We got this! 2016/2019
We had it! 2020 Well.....we thought we did
We almost lost it! 2021 Certainly did in 2020!
We have no idea where it is! 2022
Who the hell are we and why are we here? 2023

Is this also how the P&Ps provide tickets and VPs for their customers?

Or do they get them as a placed camp?

As I'm sure you know, the "profit" from the Presale program is used to fund the Low Income Ticket program. Don't think Bmorg would get rid of either program.

Re: No Presale for 2019?
I'm okay with the concept of a presale. The main failure of the BMORG is that they don't make that premium price pay for access to buy those tickets early, rather than the sticker price of the ticket, which depreciates to the value of a main sale ticket the moment the sale is over. It would even save them from having to print different ticket prices.
I don't know about this whole pays-for-low-income excuse though.
I also laugh at those "poor" people who bought a presale ticket and then found cheaper tickets and couldn't offload their parachute. The period at the end of this sentence is actually the violin playing for their plight.

Yeah I don’t get it. Shit if I had the funds to buy presale I would. And be happy that I didn’t even have to stress thinking about Main Sale day. Fucking cheap ass bitches quit being so cheap, ya bastards

Re: No Presale for 2019?
In the past I've bought the $990 ticket and then come across a main sale ticket. At that point I actually sell the $990 presale ticket for $750, effectively splitting the cost difference between the two tickets. This is always done with friends who didn't get a ticket through the main sale channel. I look at it as a great way to hedge my pricing while ensuring I have a ticket. No profit is made, no scalping is done so nothing wrong with it.

Re: No Presale for 2019?
This topic comes up every year. We often call it the idea of the "lone ticketing genius."
That being said, quite a few of us believe that if a registered ticket holder gets $990 tickets, they should be disqualified from the $425 general sale, just as low income ticket seekers can't compete in the $425 sale. There are many threads on that idea.
Theoretically I bet if someone took the ticket structure, assuming a split between DGS and gratis tickets in the about 10,000 volunteer and staff tickets, and compared that to the BORG 990 or BLM documents, they could derive the approximate number of $1200 tickets. The total is likely well under a million incremental revenue over the $990 tier.
If you are a camp which is charging a large number of thousands dues, it makes complete sense from a business standpoint to buy $1200 tickets for your campers and include it in the dues.
Me, I'm all in favor of low luxury camps based around people who know one another in real life, face to face, who continue face to face projects year around and are tested/challenged/grow by the dust.

Woooo, nelly! Simon, is this photo shopped or is that everyone's Frye guy Billy MacFarland & alledged crooks at TedX? All of those "Deep thinkers" together, but someone is missing. Perhaps you can repost this photo in the "Theme Camps" discussions on the PS thread & watch the fires grow!

Re: No Presale for 2019?
And I may be the guy who sold any friend of Jackass that top tier ticket at main sale price. The main reason I joined eplaya was, when the event turned too inclusive/exclusive, it sold out, I couldn't buy a ticket during the sale so I came here to beg and humble myself. I had to do this two years in a row, even though I was maning the computer the second that main-sale tickets went on sale. Humble myself here begging..., dear friends, those that know me in any regard, well, anyway... It took a lot of dusty beer to wash that taste from my mouth.
...wait a second, those two years of begging opened me to so many connections, the beauty of the humans on playa; International Incident, Vulture Chow, Just Joe, Chief Dan, lucky... and then the world that eplaya gave me... Alas, now as I ponder about myself, is the sell-out a blessing or a curse?
Anyway, after figuring out that the main sale was a crap-shoot on the third year of the instant sell-out, I invested in pre-sale rip-off I-support-art-and-the-poor, I-got-mine ticket. When the main sale came, we were covering camp. We knew some wouldn't get tickets. So I threw in trying, successfully, to cover tickets for another. Though at the time of gate one ticket was left hanging by a person better left off playa. And I ended up holding that extra. I didn't want the hassle, I wasn't gonna market the extra ticket. I asked around the playa people I know and Jackass replied.
So I sold him the high end ticket for a regular price while I used my lower tier ticket for myself, because I'm not bougie.

I usually always opt for the pre-sale tickets because I like the idea of my $$ offsetting the cost of other burner’s tickets, plus I’m flying all the way from Australia so securing a ticket earlier makes the international planning part less daunting.
