Playa Beignets is a Real Time Hot Food Black Rock City Sweet Art Project. We have been gifting Beignets to the residents of Black Rock City for the better part of fifteen years. These days, we continue a tradition begun by "Spoono" both to honor him & his dedication to good food AND Black Rock City's Department of Public Works. EACH morning, DPW is the first distribution point as we hit the playa with hot fresh sweet treats. We distribute on the open playa, by The Man, Kidsville, near Center Camp, The Artery, Everywhere and any where.

For 2019, Playa Beignets is seeking a couple of people to join this Arts Project to camp with us.

Last year, we mixed, rolled, fried, powdered & gifted MORE THAN 4,200 Beignets in Black Rock City. We know we can do better in 2019.

We are looking for a person or two with whom to share this fun. Your day will be easily filled with Much Gratitude as hundreds enjoy your surprising and delicious playa gifts.

Each morning, as the 1st cup of coffee is appreciated and the fryer begins to warm up to 380, we mix the batter for 10 minutes and enjoy a 2nd cup of coffee while the fryer gets to legal temp.

When the oil is perfect, we pour out enough batter on a rolling / cutting table to fill the fryer with Beignets. The batter is rolled, cut into 2 1/2” squares and carefully put into the fryer. When the well is filled, we bring a screen down to keep these delicious treats beneath the oil, allowing them to properly puff up as they fry. “Beignet” in French means, “Little Pocket.”

When perfect, and not a moment before, they are scooped out, somewhat drained before being generously dusted with powered sugar. Then the fun begins as they are distributed and consumed by very grateful and surprised Burners.

We are generally busy with this art project about 3 hours each morning from 7:30 onward. If we had enough crew, we could have enough product available for special Midnight Beignets.

We exclusively use a mix from a very popular Beignet establishment in NOLA.

Our camp is way out 5:30, has a meal plan and dues. We might have a ticket for you to purchase from our DGS.

I love you. The simple things are so appreciated on playa. (And this ain't so simple to pull off.) WARNING...Shameless begging to follow....Could you swing by Census camp as you pass Center camp. Those folks are 'fighting the good fight'. They stand in the dusty traffic gathering data. It's one of many misunderstood and under appreciated departments. You can't approach the BLM without accurate data. Those who camp at Census camp work more than play. Thank you for all you do. It shouldn't be hard to recruit for such a great camp. See you in the dust.

i’ll admit i have had his hot delicious balls in my mouth while having fresh dripped coffee and it was delightful.
