Firearms at Burning Man - Is it inevitable?

Post by HappyEndings » Thu Jan 26, 2023 10:21 am

In light of recent Supreme Court rulings and where the country is going on gun control (2nd Circuit/New York right now) and the inevitable lawsuit brooding related to firearms possession at the big burn and regionals is there any chatter at the ORG at dropping firearm restrictions at events? I'd bet quite a lot on the event being on federal land and not being any kind of special venue if challenged in court BMORG would fail to win. Where would we go for any kind of official response to this question before going any further?

While it is held on federal land, the event itself is still private. The 2nd amendment applies to the government, not private businesses and events.

A court ruling might mean that the BLM cannot require guns to be banned as a condition of obtaining the permit, but it would not prevent Burning Man from choosing to ban them on its own.

Because this message board is officially an arm of the Burning Man Organization, some topics are not discussed, and are deleted.

In this case, the BLM sets the rule. So you would have to go up that organizational structure.

The Burning Man Organization follows the rule as a condition of the permit. So they are not relevant to your question. There is nothing discussing it here gains.

yeahh... Not happening. While it seems that we have some different theories on whether No Guns is a BLM rule or a BORG rule, I really don't see any way the widespread "Culture of Burning Man" would accept firearms making a comeback. The event is like 80% hippies and global rave tourists and they all hate guns. Inevitable brooding lawsuit sounds ominous though... are you planning something? Besides, I don't know how often people go around suing Burning Man Organization for infringing on "rights" we all voluntarily wave when we attend their private event.

From what I hear, Juplaya can be a fun thing for firearms enthusiasts. Also the renegade things in '20 and '21 were pretty fun for that reason too.
