Well, according to Marion, a burn in 2021 is unlikely. At least that’s the latest blurb on the reddit sub.
So it’s up to the free radicals to have another non-event on playa.

Either way, we are building this new group to last many years to come. We will be back on playa eventually. We would love to include Indigenous people from all over the planet and allies of Indigenous people.

when you say "indigenous people", can you be more specific as to whom qualifies, or what the qualifications are?

We are looking for Burners from the indigenous, first nations, and aboriginal tribes from around the world. For example I am a descendant of the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate which is currently located on the Lake Traverse Reservation in South Dakota. My great grandfather, grandfather and mom are all registered members.

And, as reported in a quote from the late American Indian activist and actor Russell Means, isn't every person born in the Western Hemisphere a "native American"?
He wanted a return to the term "American Indian" for members of the tribes. The US Department of the Interior was the office that created the term Native American in 1970 and Means hated it.

Most of my Indian friends aren't very anal about the term, since they prefer tribal affiliations.

You did say “indigenous people from around the world”.
That would seem to include pasty white Europeans and Australians, and pretty much everyone.
If someone is no longer an “indigenous” person if they have moved from where their most distant descendants were from, no one is gonna be very indigenous when they are out at Black Rock Desert.

Pasty whites were not indigenous to Australia.

They’re kind of off-white, aren’t they?
And what about the French indignant people?

Aren't we all indigenous people of the world, skin color notwithstanding?
I wasn't born on some other planet and imported; were you?

We're using the term Indigenous in a similar way to how it is used in Canada. Basically, First Peoples of the geographic area. Those who trace their heritage thousands of years back to the geographic area in which they generally remain.
And we're quite liberal about it! We would like to talk with you about joining our camp if you personally identify as Indigenous or if you are an ally.
For instance, I identify as a female Caucasian but I'm married to an Indigenous man. I would LOVE to learn more about different Indigenous cultures from around this planet! I'd love for our kids to meet one another. I'd love to learn how we're the same and different, and have friends from a over the World.
Think about songs, story telling, games, etc. Please consider joining us if that sounds like something for you too!

What are some BM principles?
The first that comes to mind is, "don't fuck with another person's trip".

This group embraces all of the 10 Principles. An example is Radical Inclusion.
Indigenous people have historically been radically eradicated. The 2019 Black Rock City census showed about 0.5% of burners identified as Native American. Yet the population of the US is about 1.6% Native American. Indigenous People make up about 6% of the world's population. And unfortunately about 15% of the most impoverished on our planet.
Our hope is that our invitation to this camp creates a welcoming space for Indigenous People to join Black Rock City.
My hope is that further posts to this thread are also welcoming. We will all benefit from Radical Inclusion.
