Apple buckets. Apple ladders. Apples on the head. Apples bending off the branches.

Apple juice. Apple pie. Apple fritters. Apple whatever.

Apples with little smiley faces. Apple dolls. Apple ben-wah balls. Apple guns. Fall isn't even here, I've only gone through five of the trees, and I have places to go. Things to do. People to see.

it's got to be a trick
there must surely be a catch
why would they just hang there, getting bigger, more red?

"eat me" in all innosense do they say
no!

more likely is the hope
that you will carry them forward
with intestinal fortitude
splat them on the ground

or perhaps more cunning still than that
to incorporate them within your very being
a life-force exchanging places within your own

extricating you, replaced with jonathan

as cows have tamed the farmer
extending their waking life with care
seeping milk within mouths of babes
exchanging gladly any care that they are taken
but what is shared in truth you pretend not to know
