(this seemed like the best choice of subforum to post this in- apologies if I'm off the mark)
Howdy;
I'm in Dallas, TX for 6 weeks for job training, and the weekend of 6/2 my partner is flying down from Montreal to abduct me for Austin Adventures (as it's my understanding that Dallas is, uh, understimulating). Jody's been going to Burning Man since '07 (he's part of the Midnight Poutine crew) and has made it down to Playa Del Fuego multiple times. I haven't been to BM yet, but I've been to fall PDF once, Frostburn once, and Firefly soon-to-be-four times (since I hail from New England).
We really don't know much about Austin other than it's awesome (and the bat bridge- we're *totally* seeing that). Any suggestions of daytime & nighttime amusements/things that oughtn't be missed would be most welcome. Also, we'd really like to catch lunch/dinner/something with some Austin burners and chat about life, the universe, and everything. Thanks muchly!

Austin has so much going in at any given time it makes it difficult to suggest one specific thing.
Also without knowing what you like or don't like complicated matters. Or maybe not. There is always a concert or show any night of the week and some sort of festival.
Austin has trees, parks and nature trails along the river which are fun on a bike or walking, in addition to being a useful for getting around. You can stuff yourself with a plethora of food trailers from curry to cupcakes, bar be que to broccoli, vegan? Sure. Kosher or halal? I wouldn't be surprised. Locally grown? Of course.
I always like meeting burners, especially ones who hail from New England. I grew up in Connecticut and spent time in Massachussets, Rhode Island and Maine.
Try these websites: austin360.com or do512.com
(something about those doesn't seem right, I can double check those later when I'm in front of a real computer and not this iPod).

Zilker Park/ Barton Springs / Auditorium Shores during the day and then venture downtown for food and merriment in the evening (and bats at the Congress St. bridge)
