haha thanks! yeah, she was a very sweet girl. Me, a bit more mischievous...
Elorrum: yeah it was funny to run across it. I didn't even know I had that photo still. And good question, as to wardrobe. I'm sure it's location dependent, to a point, as well? Back then this was a very small town and area, sort of isolated, not so "trendy". One might now envision man buns and more tattoos now?

Everyone is so politically fucked up that they're segregating themselves in the name of equal rights and liberation.
Re: Re: The 2025 Burning Man Bar is open
That’s comforting. I got up early to watch soccer. Well I was awake early and decided to watch. It was my favorite sport to play, I think. Most parents didn’t understand it as well as other sports then, and were less invested in critical ways, better for kids running around having fun.Popeye wrote: ↑Fri Dec 02, 2022 10:31 pm

That's great and all, until...
Anyhow, yep, I remember playing on the high school soccer team. It was fun, but mostly I remember we ran our tails off non-stop! I didn't seem to mind it though.

some are hoping for a change.....
and yeah, soccer... when I was a kid it was pretty rare, at least here in my town. We got to try playing a few times at PE, but didn't know the rules and don't think the teacher cared (we played "tackle soccer")....fun, but it hurt. hahaha

I was on a club team in high school, we came in second in the state. I played for my school too, on their first girl’s team. Got to college, and women’s soccer wasn’t part of the athletics program yet. I practiced with the club there, but we had no actual games scheduled, so I quit after the first quarter. I was only a few years too early. It was fun going from melee to actual strategy and skills. I joined the first girls league available in my town in jr. high, did some refereeing. Yeah 90 minutes is a long run!

8th grade at military school I played goaly on the jr. varsity team.
Last game of the season, the center forward got pissed and quit in the second half.
Coach asked for a volunteer to take his place.
I'd only played goaly so I raised my hand.
Made 2 goals, got carried off the field, and made MVP.

As a goaly I had a unique strategy that aggravated the coach no end.
Shooters that age always tried to get close to the goal before taking the shot.
When they got about 50 feet from the goal, I would charge right at them, cutting down their angle and becoming a bigger target than the goal.
This was soooo unorthodox and unexpected that hardly anything got past me. lol

ah FJ. unorthodox and effective. well done!
It's always a balance, between pushing the envelope, and doing "what has always worked" in life.
May you and Elorrum could put on a soccer showcase!! I mean, it's flat and open in deep playa! We can build grand stands and scaffolding for lighting (cooler evenings for all your running).
I bet there are other football fanatics here on eplaya? Perhaps a "playa cup" match? The crowd would go wild!
some of us could put on a "half time' show! Lucky, MGB327, myself, and others could showcase our gymnastic and ballet talents! I could see Simon performing "The Dance of the Sugarplumb Faerie" . GW and Elliot could maybe sing, and we can all hope for a "wardrobe malfunction" (not applicable to the usually nude Elliot).
seems my work for the morning is done here.

I think could manage a brisk walk and toss the ball back on the
field. Maybe kick it back if I was warmed up, Or A very very small field, more like a 4 square game 2 on 2? Wait, Maybe that is already pickle ball….
There was an awesome soccer game set up at the man base Caravansary year (?). It was an enclosed court like a foosball setup with spinning short bar stools to sit on and kick from. I’d do that again!
I’d be ready to watch a half time show. Could even be a theme camp idea.

Gaminwench checked in here once again at the end of November, after the big blacklisting. I always looked for her rainbow extensions and smart hat at our meet and greets.
She encouraged everyone to sing, made it her work and gifted it to many. A noble calling. Salute. Peace everlasting.

Hi Elorrum! yes, since the conversion, your ECM joins the ranks of the NEB, eternal and infinite!
Well, our good start to winter seems to be fizzling here, no rain anywhere on the horizon. Last year was similar, Big December, then mostly nothing.
I'm running into the realization, once I stop making tombstones, there is no one to take over. I guess the business just closes and fades away. I've had to stop/cut back greatly the concrete jobs I take, due to my getting old and weak, and having such a hard time getting helpers. I get it, it's hard to find people to help for just a day or a few days, and especially people who know how to do things...it's too frustrating to have to explain which end of the shovel to lean on...
Sadly, I don't have enough work to keep a person busy while learning, so there's no good way to work that out. People need to "earn while they learn", and I understand, that.
Sigh, I guess the Chicoms will just take all that over, too. They are already a large presence in the industry.
And, Xmas is coming...the Holidays.........ugh.
This is a tough time of year, not sure why, but yeah.

Sounds difficult, ygmir. There is evidence of a shift in other crafts where it tips back towards the few who still know how. Hopefully the demand for well crafted items will find a way to continue somehow. Then people will need to learn from you. I saw a cool video about an old fellow who knows how to craft, repair, move and re-assemble pipe organs for churches.
I too find myself noticing the opposite directions my needs and abilities are heading as I age. I try to keep influencing the trajectories in my favor, and temper the fluctuations with what I’ve learned from experience.
I can’t say how it’s going to turn out, but it’s a story for sure.

I remember how patiently my father explained military ranks to me because I wondered about the people in McHale’s navy and Hogan’s heroes. (Plus the navy vs. the army ranks) and their equivalents. All signifying clearly who could boss who around, something very important to a little kid.

HI Elorrum.
yeah, funny, me too on the ranks and branches of service. I still enjoy those programs. I only have antennae TV, but get quite a few stations, and a couple of them seem to specialize in the old programming.
I'm really looking forward to xmas being over.
and, other than getting down to about freezing at night, it's spring like weather, with sun and light breezes. sigh, we really need a winter.

It’s cold here, but clear. Still snowy yards. Nothing on the forecast, so I’m heading to the Bay area to see my sister on the weekend. It’s been about three years since we saw each other.
I love getting broadcast tv, it’s plenty to waste more time than I should, though I augment with a roku and a little pay for streaming crap. I like the Yule log and fireplace channels this time of year, which are free.
I found a Grateful Dead Yule log on YouTube which delights me. As far as being in the mainstream, I think Jerry would have preferred a Yule log to a Vegas theme event.
