Open letter to Bloomberg...
Dear Mayor Bloomberg,
STAY IN YOUR CITY.
What happens elsewhere AIN'T YOUR BUSINESS. You don't like guns? Sorry, they're legal. Stay in your own little fiefdom where you play king, and QUIT PUSHING YOUR DICTATORIAL AGENDA ON THE REST OF US.
Sending investigators OUT OF STATE to snoop gun shows? LITTLE OUT OF YOUR JURISDICTION, PAL.
KEEP YOUR GESTAPO IN YOUR OWN CITY... NOT IN OURS. WE DON'T WANT YOUR ANTI-AMERICAN, ANTI-CONSTITUTIONAL AGENDA!
Sincerely,
An American Citizen, (NOT a NYC serf).

Thanks Sue. I gotta laugh at that rich billionaire aristocrat punk from the largest east coast city-home to the Gambino crime family and scores of other gang and crime syndicates, coming out west and investigating our gun dealers. He should wipe his own ass before telling us how to clean ours. Idiot muthafukka. From New York Citay...to boot. Asshole...

My typical selection for a day of shooting.

I don't think you guys could own any of these...Yup, 15 rounds in the Glock, Thirty in the AR, and .50BMG.

I've killed lots of predators and large game but only twice have I pulled a gun on a person. I hope I never have to use my guns(to take human life), but I am ready to at any time.jkisha wrote:Strange question, but has any of you "gun enthusiasts" ever intentionally (or unintentionally) killed anyone with one of those little toys?

Once back in '90 when I was leaving a coffee shop with a friend of mine who was black some skinheads followed us out, I ignored them and the filth they were spewing until one pulled a knife and a threaten me with it. I drew my gun, clicked off the safety on the draw, and leveled it at this asshole's head. I was squeezing the trigger until he started to back up. I would have blown his head off if he had taken one more step.
The second time I heard my screen door open (on our rural home) and instead of the knock I heard someone try the knob, and then they started messing with the lock. I grabbed my .357 cocked, leveled it at about 4' and threw the door open. It was only a stupid, drunk Chinese tourist...but you never know.

Believe me, in the heat of it all, it's self defense; regardless of how you got there. Oh, and it gets easy after awhile, a very short while, especially when you are avenging those responsible for killing others by your side.

I'm flattered you read (and enjoyed) my blog. However, I think there IS a huge self defense difference between a guy throw into a battle situation by his government and a guy protecting himself and/or his family.jkisha wrote:montanaprometheus wrote:Did you kill in self defense, or because some dead Kennedy's told you to?jkisha wrote: Not bragging, but I have. I should give you a chance to reply but I've got a lot of iron in the fire, and a tight scheduled today (I don't have Net in The Gulch.)
If a guy chooses to blow all his money on coke and whores does that entitle him to rob a bank? Joining the military (at least now-days) is the self defense equivalent of the coke/ho analogy above.

I'm also now big on public service...everybody should be required to do it. If not the military, some other form of service.
However, that being said, I think there are some big advantages to re-instituting the draft. I doubt we'd still be fighting in Iraq or Afghanistan if the entire country had to worry about their children being drafted and sent over there. The government would have to thing twice, maybe three times, before committing us to war once everybody had skin in the game.

Maybe we should do what, at least to my understanding, Isreal does. I believe all 18 year olds have to serve for two years and keep their weapon upon discharge from service.
edit: To answer your question JK, I have not had the displeasure of aiming my firearms at a human being. I have had conversations with people in our yard and others peeking in the neighbor's window with a pistol in hand behind my back.
I do not consider firearms a "toy" and being raised in Wyoming, I've killed my share of game, gophers and jackrabbits. Human interaction with a firearm is a last resort scenario and I hope it never materializes. But worst case scenario is something I ponder in all facets of life.

Just to repeat myself, for the record, I'm not against (most) people owning guns. I just find it interesting how passionate gun owners are and how paranoid they are about losing those rights.Trishntek wrote:Maybe we should do what, at least to my understanding, Isreal does. The reason I asked the original question is that I was wondering where that passion comes from and whether gun owners who have actually seen what the wrong end of a gun can do to another human being would still be as passionate about owning them. (Hunters excluded, it goes without saying.)
And just to keep the subject moving, I will say that I was a bit disturbed by an undercover report I saw at a gun show where the person purchasing the guns actually told the vendors that he wouldn't be able to pass a background check and yet he was still allowed to purchase the weapons.
And just for fun, in the army, if you ever called your "rifle" a "gun", you had to hold your "rifle" in one hand up over your head, and your dick in the other hand and then run around the barracks screaming "This is my rifle and this is my gun, this is for fighting and this is for fun.
Probably loses something in the typing, but it was pretty embarrassing and you only made the mistake once.

First, I don't believe anything coming from a known fraudulent source like bloomberg and his group.
While seemingly a damaging statement, the "instant background check" is a well known joke designed specifically to block legitimate purchasers from buying firearms.
I say the same thing whem I submit a background check, because I am always rejected in error, by the broken system.
It takes some people over a year to finish the "instant check".
Failing to pass the background check doesn't mean you are not legal to own or purchase a weapon.
It only means you didn't pass the check.
That usually means the check failed.
There are many circumstances that can cause you to fail to pass, but you may still be legal to purchase from an individual.
Pending court cases are a common cause of this, freezing all checks.
As an example, when I "failed" my last check, I couldn't pick up the gun I had purchased, but I was still legal to own and carry concealed the firearm I had on me.
I believe the check system should be ended outright.
If I have a choice, I will always purchase outside the ffl system with the "check".
Note that bloomberg refers to "high capacity magazine" puchases as though this means something.
Any seven year old girl can purchase all they want in a state that allows their sale.
A great use of the BIG LIE propaganda technique.
Bloomberg considers the stock magazine in my 9mm microgun to be a "high capacity magazine".
How can anyone take anything they say seriously?
The latest proposal to ban "high capacity magazines" will again result in massive over production of them, and an infinite supply for the future.
Maybe they didn't notice this?
John, it isn't paranoia when you watch the ever increasing rules added each month.
Note how repression has driven the small dealers out of business driving up costs for buyers (the intended result).

I think post should be limited to one idea or statement of fact. Otherwise I have to think too much to reply.
First, Bloomberg. He's the mayor of a large densely populated city. IMHO I think the laws should be different for people living in those cities than they are for people living in more rural areas. Just makes common sense to me.
Second, this is the first I have ever heard about the failings of the background check apparatus. It goes without saying, that should be rectified post haste.
Third, Isn't it the NRA that is always talking up all the regulations on the books tp prevent guns falling into the wrong hands as the main excuse for not implementing additional regulations? Doesn't make much sense at all if the regulations already on the books aren't or can't be enforced or implemented.

People living in NYC need to carry weapons much more than people living in rural areas.
I don't know if I can have just one thought at a time.
The nra poiunts out that rules are tighter than they need to be already, which is true.
If a felon buys a weapon on the record, if they are allowed to receive it, they have effectively reported themselves and confessed to a crime.
Even without a "background check", they can only plead inadvertence.
Still a crime.
Considering how many illegal weapons enter this country and float around, it isn't even vaguely possible to prevent someone not entitled to own a weapon, from obtaining one.
And once you force someone into the black market, like marijuana and the hard frug market, all weapon choices are available.
The argument about the Gifford shooting is already being made.
A handgun seems a wildly poor choice for indiscriminate killing.
Has bloomberg considered how much damage might have been done if the shooter had been forced into the black market and had shown up with an appropriate weapon for the purpose?
It was bad.
Could have been worse.

Even the best cities see an increase in crime over rural areas.
Cities with a high reliance on mass transit put people at higher potential risk.
Most do not have adequate police protection.
I know NYC fails in this area.
They still toss people out of windows there.
I felt fairly safe in the bay area, but people often would not let me walk in areas I was in.
Predators aware of personal defense restrictions are much more aggressive in such areas than in cities with high percentages of carry weapons.
The girl that was coming to pick me up one night was damned if she was driving that Gallardo into the neighborhood I was in.
Safe?
Apparently not.
Weapon carry by citizens is only a plus.
If there is never an issue, no harm done.
Pretty simple stuff.

Really?

Watching Post Mortem, a docko on the lack of standards in the forensics field.
L.A. County has about 70,000 (known) deaths a year.
The coroner only looks at perhaps a third of these in any way.
The coroner's own opinion is that many homicides slip right through.
And they are far from the worst system around.
Somebody commits crimes there.

Watching the news from egypt, I was impressed by the responsible use of guns by people there, the 'first responder' effect in action.
Checking on neighbors, protecting buildings and neighborhoods, that sort of thing.
You aren't going to see that in california now.
It's been a bit of a shock how much people step in, when they know they will be allowed to help.

People living in NYC need to carry weapons much more than people living in rural areas.

Houston Jeweler Kills Three Armed Robbers
In December, three armed men entered Ramon Castillo’s jewelry store in Houston, brandishing
handguns. At gunpoint they tied up Mr. Castillo’s wife and took her to a back room. One of the robbers
was attempting to tie up Mr. Castillo in the back room when he drew a concealed handgun
from his waistband and killed the thug who was nearest him. Mr. Castillo then grabbed a shotgun
and engaged the other two robbers in a furious gunbattle in the front of the store. Despite being
shot in the left shoulder, left abdomen and legs, the heroic Castillo killed both of those thugs, as
well. He is expected to recover from his wounds.
Houston police indicated the episode lasted two to three minutes
and that there were a large number of shots exchanged between
Castillo and the three hold-up men. His wife was not injured and
police consider the shooting a clear cut case of self defense.
Comments:
When robbers tie up your wife and take her to a back room, it’s
time to act. In many cases, this is the prelude to murder. If all
they want is money or valuables, there is no reason to tie you up
or move you to a more concealed location. If you wait to see whether they are really going to kill
you, it’s too late to do anything about it.
Fight back! The last thing thugs expect is a determined, explosive, aggressive counter-attack. This
really upsets their mental apple cart, and puts them behind the curve mentally.
