Given that we're talking about a radically-inclusive vacation, I'll grab them both and head to the orgy dome to watch Mussolini giggle like a school girl when Papa Joe's stache tickles him in all the right places. I'll share pics afterwards, don't worry.Simon of the Playa wrote:you can have Dj Chamberlain...

Re: EDM industry news
Dr Yes, here is a thought experiment, would you put one of the large sound camps and its occupants in the back yard of a home you owned?
If your home was in Nevada, and you did so, are you ready to have your home classified as a venue under Nevada law for regulatory and tax purposes?
Hey, how about if you had to pay for law enforcement to police your back yard, all the costs of arresting any guests, prosecuting, judging and jailing them?
If you answer yes to all three, we can continue the discussion.
It should be clear that there are a series of highly probable events which cause limitlessly increasing expenses and could cause you to lose your house, your entire net worth and even be forced to move out immediately. That's what we are talking about here, viewtopic.php?f=362&t=69562 and in several other threads.
What several of us are saying is dial back the emphasis, publicity and promotion of EDM at the event and minimize its attractiveness to those who bring bad club behavior to reduce the risk of the event ending permanently, or ticket costs increasing even more ridiculously.

Re: EDM industry news
I wouldn't put -any- of the Burning Man camps in my back yard. The neighbors would certainly complain in all cases. And here's the thing....all camps at BM contribute to the costs. All of them. Every individual attending does.some seeing eye wrote:Dr Yes, here is a thought experiment, would you put one of the large sound camps and its occupants in the back yard of a home you owned?

What I object to is this idea that some people are worthy of coming to BM and some aren't based on what they want to do at BM. Radical inclusion.
Having said that, I'm definitely a fan of the big sound camps not posting lineups or announcing major acts, but if they choose to do so, well, that's their right. I'm all for encouraging them not to though. Actually, I'd be equally ok with them simply not -having- major acts. I can name the DJ at exactly 0% of my best nights on the playa. But hey, that's just me, and other people care about that shit just like some people care about spoken word at Center Camp. I do not.

Re: EDM industry news
Now we are getting somewhere. The tool we have to encourage good camp behavior is placement. No camp is entitled to placement. Camps and participants do not contribute equally to costs, or to risks. The BMORG has generally done a good job at gently shaping the event as it has grown, sometimes proactively and sometimes reactively.
The challenge is to shape the BM event in the context of EDM festivals becoming big money and attracting new audiences, weirdly with recycled trance. And the challenge for the EDM festival producers is to avoid fuckups like Altamont and manage their relationship with the LEOs.
The original purpose of this thread was for ePlayans to see into the commercial EDM festival world.

The Burning Man ORG legal team is on top of this already (it was posted on 9/16) no need to inform them!
DJ Sander van Doorn and Spinnin' RecordsTM using the event to promote themselves.
Includes:
BM logo
Burning Man title
Drone shot flight violations
Gratuitous use of the art

Setting aside the legal and copyright issues, I thought that video was well done.
And I agree with Dr. Yes that sound camps will not ruin the event. It will continue to evolve and change. Who knows what the future holds.

Re: EDM industry news
There is no radical inclusion other than in your head. Say you want the rapist and pedos in your BM camp or quit with the bullshit platitudes that mean nothing, are so easy to say, but impossible to live by. I know DJs are not rapist, but the constant bull about "I welcome everyone regardless, it's the rules" is so bogus and old. Really? There are no exceptions or grey areas? Really? Climb up on your radical platitudes high horse. So fake. The soundcamps also contribute their fair share of moop, and seeing the "Community" minded folks who champion those camps, I totally understand why. Hell, a person dumping trash on the playa has as much right at the burn as anyone, or some such crap. You love your music festival, good, but quit claiming you radically include everyone, unless you really do.What I object to is this idea that some people are worthy of coming to BM and some aren't based on what they want to do at BM. Radical inclusion.
The kind of enlightened souls who judge a snuff film, not by it's actual content, but by the artistic value, and being open to others points of view and all. I knew the soundcamps were creepy, but sheesh....

Re: EDM industry news
Oh the life of the overworked dj! Life is so haaaard
"it simply isn't possible to be a producer, touring DJ and radio DJ at the same time"
I mean first I have to import someone else's music into Ableton, time stretch and pitch correct some samples and export it. Then I have to play 2-5 2 hour max sets on tour in a month, not every month though, with less than 100 transitions each. OMG it's sooo haaard! Then I have to play 2 1 hour sets for broadcast a month. It's soooo hard to be a DJ that there is a severe shortage of them at Burningman, and in your town, anywhere, world,

Re: EDM industry news
Remember when music told stories? Explained living and the world to us? There was a beginning, something to make you think, then a finish? Remember when music relayed ideas? Remember the Song of Solomon? Remember mariachis? Remember when musical prowess revealed a lifetime of training? Remember watching musicians perform their craft? Remember when musicians weren't just slimy really really really bad electricians? Remember opera? Remember folk tunes? Remember choirs? Remember slave songs full of code? Remember oral traditions? Remember Griots? Remember Woody Guthrie? Remember the troubadour? Remember the mistrial? Remember when a particular song spoke to you? Remember not being able to get some lyric out of your head? Remember humming a song? Remember how humans across time have used music to share stories and information, pass down history, express thoughts? Instead today, because of mental laziness, we have thumpa thumpa boom being played by over-payed spoiled douche products with phat hats on backwards, finger to the side of their vacant head, numbing us to everything and making everyone a simpleton.
Remember......opps....memory, remembering, thinking.....that's just not what today's EDM is about at all.
