Good morning Bar
I'm caught in whirlwinds this morning.
I so want the day to depart for the playa to arrive yet, even though I do stuff everyday, I am not ready yet. The weather here in Minnesota is finally getting "North Country nice" and I don't want the summer to just disappear. Yet I yearn for the playa knowing full well the event marks the end of summer.
I can't work well sometimes because I get caught up in my lists and my forays into the Amazon jungle trying to find just the right next thing I need.
What is this thing that Burning Man does? What is it doing to me?
Uggh

ah, ZigZag. Amazon Jungle, I like that. Your stuff is meant to support you, not to be an unimaginable burden. That being said, as MyDearFriend did, and I possibly misquote, "Burning Man is a logistician's wet dream."
I am waiting for FedEx though to bring some electronics parts for upgrades. Plan, toil, execute, and then playa failure, for most of my electrical gear last year. So, why not try it again, and bigger more and more untested new? I wish I could just rely on the old and reliable, and how small a footprint it has, needs small and few, or no batteries. But that's not Burning Man, where you go big or you go bigger.
Yeah, it's a year long thing.
Happy Wednesday BAR! no coffee for me, trying the no caffeine for awhile. Not trying decaf coffee, yet. Got the special cupboard of abandoned herbal tea to work on.

Going to Kauai, Hawaii shortly before Burning Man was a bad idea.
I've got virtually zero enthusiasm to go to BRC now.

Re: The Bar 2016 Edition
I'm wondering why Captain. Is it because Hawaii is a relatively simple and leisurely way to have a really enjoyable week compared to what all it takes to go to BRC?

Re: The Bar 2016 Edition
I'm already one of the very few people who've been going to Burning Man since the man was still right on the ground that still goes today. Things change and it's not the event it was and I'm not as interested in today's version.
The whole island of Kauai has about the same population as BRC. And no dust storms.
Sure every ten or twenty years a hurricane comes through and destroys the entire place, but hey BRC only lasts a week.

Of course do what you want !
Personally I've slowed down to a creep but
I'm going again because my roots are deep
Had no idea what burning man was in the beginning at Baker Beach and my motives have changed as well I'm interested in how this conflagration will continue and improve

Re: The Bar 2016 Edition
Today a lady came by my house to look at a table I'm gifting away.
When I give directions to my house, I tell people to look for the big red barn.
Well, she said something like "That sure is a big red barn, indeed", and she wondered at its contents, some of which could be seen thru the door. So I explained about Kinetic Sculpture Racing and Burning Man.
"You're a Burner?!"
She said she went to the first Burn on Baker Beach in 1989, but has not been since. She keeps informed though, and she mentioned some names of other local Burners.
Now... on the BM website they show the first Burn a couple years earlier, but that's kind'a trivial. What's rare, is that I met a Baker Beach Burner.

It seems to be a lot like Woodstock. ""I was there. WOW. Me too". I have a friend at work that has a friend who disappeared when the event moved to the desert. Evaporated. Never to be found. He suspects that Burning Man ate him.

Captain, you need the Bacon Bloody Mary to really catch that vibe. Bacon pulverized and blended in tomato juice, add Bakon vodka (bacon infused), bacon hot sauce, and a fresh strip of premium bacon as a swizzle stick.
Bacon blended into nirvana.....the hair of the dog for the morning.

Re: The Bar 2016 Edition
I tried the Ygmir Technologies "Put a little blood in your work." technique, and I have to say I think I prefer the FIGJAM method of "No pain, NO PAIN!!!",
Extreme arm wrestling with a saguaro where the object is to rip your opponents arm off is not for the faint of heart.
I had the chain around the top of the arm for leverage, and started pulling to pop it off.
I wrapped the chain around my hand to get a better grip, and misjudged how much slack would be in the chain when the arm came off.
Nothing broken, but the cactus almost won this round!!!

Re: The Bar 2016 Edition
Ouch, Figjam, that looks painful! Hopefully it looks worse than it feels, and you can change course back to the no pain method for the next round.
Nice pic, Captain, and enjoy the hell out of the trip. Hopefully with the Land Yacht being pretty ship-shape this year you can bask in the afterglow of the tropical vacation for a few weeks and not feel like you need to need to worry about anything related to the desert.
I've had a bit of a monkey wrench thrown into my work and build schedule, but otherwise am pretty excited for this year's nonsense. I think I'm headed back to the drawing board on a couple pieces, but hopefully everything will come together.

Re: The Bar 2016 Edition
I did, since the arm came off the cactus.Ratty wrote:But who won?
That arm weight was about 600 pounds and I landed it right in the back of the truck from 9 feet up.
I didn't have quite enough slack in the chain, so it yanked it into my tender......supple........ sensitive flesh.

Re: The Bar 2016 Edition
To the Captain: the black rock pictured is probably some type of basalt. Since I'm a mainland US geologist, I call it a 'hawaiite', which is an unofficial term.
While you're there, you need to appease Pele, the goddess of the volcanoes, by pouring out some vodka on the side of the volcano.
Pele also likes tequila, or so I'm told.
