Well, now, this is a sad story.
I hope the response to his misfortune gives him more stories of kindness to write about.

I don't normally wear heels. 2" wedges is as close as I get.
I would make an exception for these.

AND.... it turns out he shot himself as a publicity stunt.
This week, we posted a story about West Virginia man Ray Dolin who was hitchhiking across America for a memoir called “The Kindness of America” when a random man in a maroon pickup truck pulled up on the side of the road and shot him in the arm. Tragic, right? And so ironic. It certainly made the perfect headline.
But alas, the whole story was a little too spot-on: the police stopped and arrested the suspect, 52 year-old Lloyd Christopher Danielson III, in a maroon pickup truck, and according to Montana authorities they found no evidence of him having shot someone. Then, after interrogating him at the hospital, police say Dolin admitted to making up the story in a desperate bid for publicity. The case is still open, but police have since found the weapon that they believe Dolin used to shoot himself in the arm.

Horrible.
Maybe there's another shoe to drop. But if the story is correct as written.... horrible.

Yeah, it's weird.
They claim on their website to have gotten permission:
I wonder what insurance/assurances they've had to provide in order to arrange this. Or whom they blackmailed.
They claim on their website to have gotten permission:
It's surprising, particularly considering we're on probation with the BLM, that this would be allowed. But surely they must have permission; you couldn't just smuggle "1,700+ square feet of live sod" into BRC.To the best of our knowledge, we are the only camp that still has permission to bring live plant product onto the playa. This will be Shady Asylum's ninth time on the playa, but the last of those was in 2007. For the theme Fertility 2.0, we especially wanted to resurrect this project, have some living earth on the playa, and share the incredible experience of muddy toes, humid shade, and open hearts with our city.

If everyone brings plants to the desert, then it wouldn't be a desert now would it?

Re: WTF
I get a fair amount of phishing spam dummied up to look like UPS shipment confirmations.
But lately I have been getting them from morons who forget to change the links from UPS to their own virus infested web sites. Hovering over the links shows they basically copied a real UPS confirmation verbatim and forgot to change anything. Not that I would actually click any of those links.
This appears to be an entirely new level of stupidity.

Re: WTF
I've seen that one too. I get spam in waves like that too, Drawingablank - all concentrated on my eplaya@ address. Basically what I believe is happening is those are users whose machines are infected (botnet or other form of virus), and when something new comes out their machines send to everyone their machines can reach. Since everything from registrations to notification emails have the eplaya addy on them, it comes my way.
