My god, I actually have reason to come into this thread. Happy people have been depressing me lately, unless I'm drinking...

After the longest period of unemployment in my life (well, since I was 16)- 2 fucking years, I am back in the workforce! I'm being trained as an assistant, and the goal of my new boss is that I "never have to have a day job again". Still part time as I get used to the work, but... I'M WORKING!

Oh yeah- they're Burners. With tickets. Could my life get any better right now?

And now I'm going out on a date with a lovely young man to celebrate it (I already went on a date with the boyfriend to celebrate... )

Sorry!

It's pretty much how everyone is finding out- we're keeping it low-key while I'm in training to make sure it works out (but so far they love me & are already increasing my responsibilities). I haven't mentioned it on fb, only a couple of my friends know. I've had a couple of offers (not jobs) that fell through, so I'm being... very Jewish about this.

But good god- it feels so fucking nice to have work, and that has almost nothing to do with the money. It's more.. I have a reason to get up in the morning. For as much as we all can complain about working the last two years have shown me how much not working sucks more.

Congrats Foxy! Interesting dates are the best!
And yay for Dougly!

Yeah!! For you Eric!! I know how it goes, my best to you in your new place of employment.

A man came into where I work yesterday, wearing a fur coat. A little dusty. I leaned in close
behind him and took a whiff. I then gently whispered "Thank you, it smells of "home"."
He turned around and grinned and gave me a big huge hug!
We talked a bit about BM, and both being bummed about the ticket thing, etc.

But it was a great moment......

Gratz, Fox, UD, And Eric.

TinkerMom - I am so jealous.

The chances of having a burner wander into my store out here in the burbs I would rate as somewhere between zero and nil. Sic Pup did stop by for a visit on his way to Harbor Freight last year, but that was planned. I just don't think we have much of a burner population outside of the city here.

That would certainly make my day.

Bin Noddin's in Connecticut, but I don't know if he's in the suburbs or what. I'm sure there are more, they simply don't show up against the lights of the big, big city.

From what I understand New York hasn't had a regional in years.

They do have a weekly cocktail hour in NYC which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this week iirc, but I've never attended. Traveling into the city after work and having to wake up for work the next day would give me about 2 hours of partying for a 2 hour round trip commute.

So, my violin teacher thinks I am ready for my own violin!!!
She showed me a beautiful handmade piece that she thinks is made for me, and it sounds like heaven.
I think I am going to buy it :)

And play it well someday...

Silver Spring, Maryland, actually - just outside Washington, DC. Lots of burners here, a very diverse crowd from DJ's and party people to serious builders. And, of course, the magnificent MDF. ***Jewel and ShoeGirl are in the Conn. suburbs, I think.

So after commuting for 5 years between Northern Virginia and Baltimore every weekend, enduring long distance romance, living with our parents, waiting patiently for my honey to complete school, and then dealing with my health problems...we are finally applied, approved, and moving into our own beautiful apartment in B-more at the end of the month!!! I am so ridiculously excited at the prospect of having my own place again and getting to share it with my love and his wonderful son. Things are finally coming together for me :) I also applied for SSDI, but I expect that will take quite a bit longer to hear about. My lawyer is dealing with it though so no worries for me.
