Morning all.... been hibernating a bit with really bad cough and cold. Finally feeling a bit better. Really knocked me for a loop. Back to tennis next weekend, so yay for that.
Happy Birthday to Patsh & Delle's Mom!
MDF, the hammock sounds dreamy.
Typical summer morning overcast. Gotta start making Playa Schwag. About 4 months before we hit the dust!

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
I'll echo the drive safely part of that.
Remember, all, YOU make the trip, no matter what else, if you're open to the experience.
I just got back from my temporary community home, Interfuse, that put the uplift in the Ozarks. Indeed, 'twas EPIC. I arrived at the gate about 30 min. short of closing time for the night, and the gate folks were damned happy to see me. Comrade Heathen Stumble Biscuits came up to me right away, and I asked her if she was thinking of staying at Apocolyptica this year with all the other Comrades. She hugged me, and then I whispered in her ear, "And tell me, Comrade, what have you done with moose and squirrel?"
Her response was immediate and most unexpected: "Shut up and kiss me, you fool!" And she planted a doozy on me, lips to lips. Welcome home, indeed!
Then, off to the greeter station.
I got my requisite 'welcome home' hugs, and the laughter erupted like wildfire when I told them, "You are SO damned Lucky, the last greeter that said that hippy shit to me in BRC got hoisted on the end of a chainsaw as a trophy in center camp!"
"YAAAAAAAY, Rhino's BACK!!!!"
Damn straight.
Set up the camp in under 10 minutes and went down to Ranger Central. I got the night off. Two shifts tomorrow, though.....
I get back to camp, and i I dropped by the Misfits Camp, where I fit it quite well. I was camping on their fringe area, and was quite welcome to do so. OMG, Wood Hippy was rangering this year. Redneck, ex-Marine Iraq veteran was having the identity crisis of his life, looking more like he was straight out of Duck Dynasty with a full length beard down his chest, and we hugged like it had been years since we'd seen each other (It HAD been 3 years).Moost of the old gang was there. I felt welcome someplace for the first time in a long time. So, I sat down in a chair at the table to relax, talk, and catch up. It took most of the night.
Next morning at 6 a.m., the internal alarm clock (it never fails) got me up for my first shift. A GOOD ranger shift. They paired me with 'Levels', a brand new rookie who had her head on straight. I had her corrupted by the third joke. Seeing tie-dye in the roadway, I yelled "Ramming Speed" and hit the gas on the golf cart (yes, I RATED this year) We helped Mad Hatter set up for pancakes and Nick set up for breakfast burritos, a new addition for the Spice Pirates to give away. The golf cart used to haul equipment and foodstuffs, and we did it without an accident, not even a problem. End of shift.....Kaalin drops by, and I give him a t-shirt from Burningman 2013, the "BRC Division of Geology - We Rock your Fucking World" limited edition shirt. He was very thankful, and says to say hello to Yggy. Kaalikn was lead arsonist and event coordinator this year.
Second shift in 2 hours. I lay down at the picnic table, and fell fast asleep for an hour or so.......

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
Cannot top that, but still had a fine weekend. Did show-n-tell at the local Earth Day festivities on Saturday (a few days late, as Earth Day goes? Doesn’t matter to anyone hereabouts). Sunday went swimming in the American River near Auburn with friends from Sacramento, then for the return I split off westward on my own and snuck in an hour’s visit at the Ygmir Stone Iron and Secret Laboratorium Works in Nevada County before getting home after dark.
That river was rather cold (near the town of Cool!), but vigorous swimming, which is what I came for, made it almost tolerable. After a while some of us drove over to the North Fork, where the water was supposed to be warmer, but that was apparently somebody’s idea of a joke. Still got in a second swim. And wow, that is the crystal-clearest water I have ever seen. Impossible to tell by looking whether it was one foot deep or eight.
Majestic mountains, verdant forests, ancient gold mining equipment still strewn about here and there, inspiring current-day weekend panners.
Blah, blah....

Hi gang!!!
so, a dilemma: I am hoping to buy a condo in Portland. I have saved, in cash, a down payment. They won't take cash for a down, unless you can explain where it came from. "Patriot Act"? WTF? well, I've been squirreling money away for decades, I can't prove where it came from! And yet, I'm told I will be required to do so. Now what? Crap!!

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
Yeah.
Step one is to get that money in a bank account. One large cash deposit at once will require a letter and/or documentation explaining where you got that money. Tax returns, invoices, etc.
Your other option is to parcel that out into weekly deposits that are a bit more believable as income.
Do not take large amounts of cash at once to bank. It can be seized as evidence of illegal activity even without any drugs or guns or whatever.
Also, stop hording cash. It makes piss poor mattress stuffing.

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
ha, VC, I understand........but, at "no interest" I see no good reason to use banks. I don't like or trust most "banks" (have dear friends who are bankers, though), and don't trust my government.
"stop hording cash" is exactly what they want, and I'm not much for "timid compliance" for no reason.
I have done nothing wrong, and should not have to "explain" this at all! IMHO.
If I had a huge yard sale, I'd also not be able to explain the money, but, would be compelled.......this, to me is B.S.

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
You shouldn't have to explain yourself, but this is the world we live in and the government we elected. It's aimed at stopping money laundering.
As for the not trusting banks, as long as you're in an insured bank, you're at a greater risk of losing your cash to a house fire.
I guess the other option is to keep gold. Buy from a legit dealer in bullion not the jackasses who advertise on late night tv. You'll have receipts and an asset that wont be incinerated in a fire.
If you want a mortgage, that cash will have to go in a bank, period.

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
Interfuse. Second shift rangering. Now on foot.
We were SPECIFICALLY instructed to hold a perimeter around the effigy beginning six hours prior to the burn. Rangers on either side of the circle. I did a shift, and went to eat supper. The comissary had grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. Works for me...light and tasty. Ate quick and headed back to central. No problems.
Had a couple of great meetings with old friends, and then, BURN TIME! I took outer perimeter. We had EIGHT sandmen, and EIGHT arsonists in full bunker gear at the effigy. I've never seen this type of protective barrier before. Wonderful. No runners tonight. The effigy was in one pile about 15' high.
A tree of wishes coming out of a volcano. Never seen that in reality, but I'm willing to make it happen. The effigy caught fire quickly from the first flare. Then, after 10 minutes, it collapsed with just a poke or two from the men in bunker gear. All down safe.
My job done, I headed back to Central.
On for another two hours on radio lead, and then back to camp. I collapsed on the bed, after two shifts of successful rangering.
The final score for Interfuse 2015:
PARTICIPANTS: over 800
Hippies: wHO CARES?
iNCIDENTS: ALL MINOR.....CUTS, SCRAPES, AND HEAT-RELATED.
Negative LEO incursions on site: NONE!
Satisfaction level: FULL ON!
A safe, happy burn..let's do it again in BRC!
Love you all.

Yggy, so you're now having to deal with The Patriot Act. Welcome to my world. If the Republican Congress really wanted to get on the right side of the American people (including yours truly) they'd disband The Patriot Act and shove it into the dustbin of history. Unfortunately you can't spell patriot without riot.
Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
If the dates of issue (the year) on the notes reflect these decades... might it "fly" that you have religiously tucked ten bucks a week under the mattress? ($10 a week for 30 years would be $15,600.)ygmir wrote:... I've been squirreling money away for decades...
Of course, you would have found the growing lump in the mattress uncomfortable to sleep on and exchanged the tens for 100s more recently. Just brainstorming. I wish I had such a problem.

Dr. Pyro, I must apologize that a fellow Missourian was the ASSHOLE who put that through....John Ashcroft. They called him "King John" when he was Governor. Now you know why. The good news on the cash is that once you get it in an account in a bank, time cleans it up for you. It has to season like a freshly taken deer carcass.

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
Ashcroft was such a douchebag that he lost a senatorial election to a dead man. Then Bush appointed him, what, attorney general if memory serves. And the week before 9/11 he announced that there was no real threat of terrorism and was going to use that money to fight domestic pornography and the like. Six days later the Twin Towers fell. And that pretty much was the end of his career. Good riddance.

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
Issue resolved, I believe. I went to the bank, and my old friend (40+) years is now assistant manager. She found records of my withdrawing said amount, in cash, some years ago. so, printed the info out for me, and also noted to the bank manager. So, if asked, I can show where the money came from, or at least the very largest portion of it. She said that should be fine.
now, I just gotta hope.
and yeah Doc, congress.......both parties embarrass me so bad, years ago I took the anarchist political theme........in the political sense, not the "burn it to the ground" sense. One wooden nickel, two sides, one edge that they share........it's that simple.

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
Glad things are improving yg but that's just fuckin scary man.
So if over the last several years for instance, I put money in my savings account, which is at a credit union as opposed to a bank, as well as stashing some in a mayonnaise jar buried in the backyard, and I withdrew say $60,000 and plopped down 600 $100 bills at a Dodge dealer for a new diesel crew cab with an 8ft bed, that would arouse suspicion?
Would it be better to transfer the money into my checking and write a $60,000 check to pay the truck off or write a check for say $8,000 for a deposit and make large payments with the remaining $52,000 in the bank, paying the truck off in a few months? or less
I have direct deposit but use cash for just about everything: groceries, gas etc
and to pay bills by writing a check to whatever: the gas company, NV energy, one major credit card etc. They all want things done "electronically" SUPOSSEDLY to use less paper.

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
as I understand it, any large (definition?) cash transaction has to be reported........then, they can demand you explain where you got it........"prove our innocence" is the key there. They don't have to prove you did wrong, you have to prove you didn't. So bank deposit or truck purchase, I understand cash get reported to DHS.Thecatman wrote:Glad things are improving yg but that's just fuckin scary man.

and to pay bills by writing a check to whatever: the gas company, NV energy, one major credit card etc. They all want things done "electronically" SUPOSSEDLY to use less paper.

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
Seems I remember... a car dealer must report to somebody any cash purchase exceeding $10,000. Probably applied/applies to all businesses, but bank robbers are particularly known for running right out and buying a new car.
Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
A little trick I learned when I bought a new vehicle.
I went to a factory dealership since they seem to have the most leeway in making deals and carry their own financing.
Picked out the car I wanted and we sat down to deal.
I told them that I didn't care how long the payment plan was or how much the interest would be as long as I could get a good price and the payments were low.
This got the sticker price from 23k down to 18k since they thought they would get me on the interest.
Paid 5k down and drove home in my new car.
Went in the following month and paid it off in full!!!!!!!!!!

That is the hard way. Your credit union likely finances vehicle purchases at the dealership, most do, and most folks with that much in savings will qualify. Just sign for a loan carried by your CU, then do a transfer of funds one time online. Done.Thecatman wrote:
So if over the last several years for instance, I put money in my savings account, which is at a credit union as opposed to a bank, as well as stashing some in a mayonnaise jar buried in the backyard, and I withdrew say $60,000 and plopped down 600 $100 bills at a Dodge dealer for a new diesel crew cab with an 8ft bed, that would arouse suspicion?![]()
