Well if you ask me, Fishy, it's about damn time. Better late than never!

I am having peace and goodwill here at home, all xmas things done and distributed, free to relax and enjoy a quiet evening with the expectation of a quiet day tomorrow, a "free period" of 24 hours. Some lackadaisical cooking will produce a family dinner. Other than that I am not going to do anything. 8)

Well, except drink.

Thanks, MyDearFriend!
Happy Free Day to all who get to enjoy a bit of time off!!
Made some scotch shortbread dough, and now it's chilling overnight. Bake 'em in the morning and bring them to my friend, Pamela's house for a nice LITTLE gathering for an hour or two. That's it for me... I'll be happy to be home.

Peace and Love and all that Hippie Shit...

Whenever I get called a fucko here, it gives me a warm feeling.

Tidings of comfort and joy. Patsh and My Dear Friend. I'd love a drink as well. Must be some hot water somewhere around here for tea.

I've got potatoes in the oven and my apt. smells like onions and cooking. The potato slices looked sort of cool with the red ring around the edges. I don't think they'll stay that way after they've cooked.

I still need to break out the tape and paper, but that's a part of this I don't really like much. There's a good pile of loot, I just need to divy it up.
I think I'll go to bed early and wrap it up in the morning.

I get that warm, fuzzy feeling from that name too, or I wouldn't be using it. Not here, anyway.
Wrapping is the fun part for me. I wish we lived closer, Elorrum! I'd offer to wrap with you!
We could make a tea party of it!

And, MyDearFriend, shortbread is about the easiest cookie to make! And So Yummy!!!

Greetings of the Yuletide campers.

Just finished my truly one and only Xmas tradition: Sitting down with a nice glass of wine and watching Die Hard. Best Xmas movie ever.

To those I met at the burn and those I have yet to meet, may your holidays be as special as you are.

I'm spending the holidays alone, so I raise a glass that all your wishes this season are what you are hoping/looking for.

Happy Holidays,

Ah, yes, the whole "you helped to win WWII a couple of years early, thereby saving thousands of lives, but now we're going to turn our backs on you and hound you because you don't have the right sort of sex partners" thing is really kind of a disgrace. My father's a mathematician, so he might have more connection on an emotional or professional level. He also worked with Hawking, who was a supporter, so that might spark something. Might not, it was a long time ago.

Merry "Xmas" everyone.
The "Christmas Cruise" through the neighborhood didn't happen, the weather has been shitty up here and I've been working a lot including today, but I don't really care. The first mate is sound asleep - she knows Santa doesn't come unless you are sleeping... and I've heard direct from Santa that she's been very good this year so I know he's coming.
I wonder how that Red Rock Christmas burn thing is going - has anyone heard anything more about that?

And in a pure coincidence.... I happen this evening to be reading a 1939 in-depth history of Christopher Columbus, and at this moment of my reading he is in Hispaniola on December 24, preparing to celebrate Christmas with the Great King of Japan, or possibly China.

Utterly unrelated.... I wish you this day Good Will Toward All Mankind.

More coincidence! You do that Capitan, as at this very moment in 1492 the Santa Maria ran aground on Haiti while all hands were asleep, and they spent Christmas salvaging their supplies with the help of kindly native Tainos in canoes.

What are the odds that I would be reading this on the very day?

Columbus wanted to Christianize the peaceful Tainos -- and enslave them. The irony.

Good god I'm usually able to slip around fairly silently, but here I am trying to be smooth and quiet and I couldn't be tripping and dropping shit on the hardwood floor more if I wanted to! Either the Mate is really zonked or maybe she just knows better than to spy on Christmas.

Edit: mission successful. She's out like a light in the AEZ... haha

Elliot I like histories and biographies that are old, written when the events weren't so far in the past.
I realize that in the particular case of your current book the 1940s aren't that much closer to the 1490s of course.
But it's cool when such books are written by someone who was able to actually interview the people involved or people who knew them.

Thanks, FIGJAM! I've never seen either the Life of Brian or the Hogfather, so I know what I'll be doing later today!

Sadly, I can't open what goathead posted, since there's no link and my computer is still blocking embeds. Maybe after watching all that stuff from FIGJAM, I'll be happy to stare at the big black rectangle for a while.

Happy Day to all!
Meanwhile, :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: (slightly spiked) :D
