Re: what are you listening to?
The day started with some Chemical Brothers, but after seeing something about it being composer John Williams' birthday I couldn't help but putting on the soundtrack to The Force Awakens. Great stuff, and while I've heard it on headphones and of course in the theater with the film, this is the first time I'm hearing it on the studio monitors... wow.

Dude..Let me remind you of another composer with great movie soundtracks......Ennio Morricone.
For those who don't recall.....

Re: what are you listening to?
Ennio just scored his first western in decades with The Hateful Eight, and I think it's won some awards.
Today's been all about listening to Muse. They picked up an award for best rock album last night with the album Drones. It's a heavy concept record, but also a really great piece of rock. I think the award went as much to Muse as it did to uber-producer Mutt Lange, who cut his teeth in the 70's and 80's producing albums for AC/DC, Foreigner, Def Leppard and others.
Interesting that Ennio Morricone's work comes up, as Muse has covered his Man WIth A Harmonica at pretty much every show they've played since 2007. The track I'm listening to now is pretty heavily influenced by his work, and has a great cinematic feel to it... at least in the opening.
In the straight up crunchy loud rock tracks department, this one is still my favorite on the album...

And continuing the trend... more Muse. I had been listening to a playlist of live stuff from The Cure earlier (courtesy the humans who curate playlists for my music streaming dealio), but just switched back to more Muse. The band just released a video for the next single, them playing it live in a tiny club in Cologne.

Re: what are you listening to?
Wow, those are two things I never thought would think could work in harmony, but it does to really spectacular effect!
Today's soundtrack is going to be an oldie but a goodie... INXS. These guys were an absolute favorite live band for me, I caught them live at just about every opportunity from 1983 until singer Michael Hutchence's death in 1997. The first time I saw them, this was the current single and just beginning to pick up steam on the radio and MTV (which at the time only played music videos all day and night)...

Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

There are only two tracks I skip. The rest have been playing pretty much continuously for a week now. (Automatically, yes! There are aspects of modern technology I do appreciate.)
Never mind the lyrics. Just listen to the instruments (including his voice). Listen to each instrument. I could swear there's a xylophone in there -- who'd a thunk that could work at all in a gritty Blues song?! This is musical jewelry.

Re: what are you listening to?
Not a week goes by that I don't spend at least a little time listening to Underworld, but with a new record dropping in a couple weeks and having just gotten tickets to see them next month, they've been the soundtrack to my last couple days...
