Re: The Bar 2016 Edition
Oh, yeah that can be awkward. Well, hopefully it proves to be pre-playa jitters and things wind up working out. That reminds me, I need to check and make sure I've got plenty of advil, 5-htp, and electrolyte tablets for the camp. A few years ago we started bringing enough to share with our group, and let people know that if they started feeling cranky or crampy wiped out or whatever, it was because their body needed something. Electrolyte tablets can replenish those levels in 10-15 minutes, advil is great for aches & pains & headaches, and 5-htp is great for moodiness and exhaustion (it's a natural supplement that helps the body produce seratonin).
Fingers crossed, I hear back from the auto shop today and there aren't any unexpected surprises. I took it in to have the brakes checked and a couple tires put on yesterday, and the inspection revealed that it needed some spendy work. We dipped into savings to get the stuff that was needed done, but I'm always nervous about mechanics taking advantage of the situation. The place came highly recommended, though, and I got a good feeling when I was in the shop yesterday. Here's hoping, and happy Tuesday!

Re: The Bar 2016 Edition
Haha gaminwench. It is a bit pfluffy, but it's self-serving. We found that camp is a lot more enjoyable and restful when people are in a good mood.
Hooray, the trip to the shop went smoothly. They took good care of us, helped us out in a few spots, and it's riding better (and safer) than it has in some time.
Beyond that, it felt like the makerspace I do stuff at was conspiring against me. The computer connected to the big CNC machine I use to cut big pieces was having problems with the port... so I couldn't plug my USB stick with my files in. Fortunately, I was able to use a different machine in the space to get the file I needed sent over and make it all go with time to spare. Then I headed upstairs where I had a couple hours booked on the big laser... and the guy ahead of me was running behind. I guesstimated the time I needed to not be too long, so instead of insisting he wrap things up on schedule I let him have the extra 10 or so minutes he needed out of my scheduled time to get it done right. Then once I got onto the machine it took a bit longer to set up the first job but everything came together nicely in the end. I also got a fair amount of painting done, I feel like I'm getting into the home stretch on some of these projects.

G'Day Bar
I looked at the calendar and realized I am leaving in just over 3 weeks.
Panic is starting to sink in.
Will I be ready? My list isn't that long so I must have missed something. Food for freezing will be done this weekend, re-test setting up the monkey hut then pack it up, double check the van rental, (I sure hope they don't give me a beater), clothes need work. Camping gear is good. Lights are good, batteries are on the way. Gifting things are finally finished.
Tickets: Check
VP: Check
EAP: Supposed to arrive in August
Good gracious. Is it possible I am actually almost ready?
Panic sets in again.
Is this normal?

Everyday until you leave... I haven't started to snap yet, but I know it's coming. Guaranteed.
Sooner or later, it will get real strange...

I'm supposed to be painting like mad, but this heat wave makes the kitchen too warm to be motivated. Already behind because of all the crap this winter and spring. Ah well. What I have is what I have.

Re: The Bar 2016 Edition
I've been painting and coating things like mad for the last couple weeks. I still have a ways to go, but at least I'm starting to feel like I'm getting caught up on some of the projects after unforeseen detours and delays in late spring/early summer.

Re: The Bar 2016 Edition
It's been a productive weekend so far. I had a meeting yesterday, but otherwise got a bunch of painting and clear-coating done. Still lots to do, but so far no big spills and I haven't either tried to drink paint or put a brush in my drink.
Of course the day's still early

Re: The Bar 2016 Edition
Larry got a lot of the bins resorted, lights fixed, more bins staged, and then I had to sit on him to get him to stop. He wanted to load the big cooler with beers and sodas, but I told him no, being staged outside in this heat, inside a cooler or no, would skunk the beer. We still have three weeks, buddy.
I need to pay bills and sew today. Yay. And paint. Always paint.

Re: The Bar 2016 Edition
Hahaha, I can sympathize with him, I was thinking yesterday that I could probably start packing and loading some bins. It was stuff I was nowhere near ready to do yet (in our city dweller space, when bins get packed they get sent out to our storage space until it's time to load, which means I wouldn't have ready access to its contents).
Getting the last of the big pieces moved into place this week (I hope), hopefully everything comes together nicely.

Re: The Bar 2016 Edition
Mmmmm flotsam... I'm hoping to take a good look at some of the bins I bring this year. My own personal bins turn into a flurry of quick... and frequently bad decisions. I'm pressed for time, so I don't give much thought to choices on what I'll wear. As long as I can fit it in the truck or van, chuck it in the bin and figure the rest out on playa. Last year it felt like I had at least a bin... maybe even two... of things I didn't end up using or even remotely needing (just talking about clothes). Then again, on the coldest nights, I wore everything I could put on top of anything else. This year, one of my goals is to do a better job of packing for myself.

*drinks shot of bourbon, pours another*
Well gang, launch for me this year is officially scrubbed. I had figured it was an off year going in, seeing as there are some major obligations and stuff that really need doing this summer, but I was willing to keep the door slightly ajar in my mind in case things changed. As expected though, I'm still going to be in the thick of it for the next few months. That said, I fully intend to be on the playa next year.
*drinks shot, pours another*
I also want to mention that every year here on eplaya, it seems that there are two or three new burners, who exhibit all the best traits of becoming stealth virgins, and this year is no exception. I'll refrain from listing names, but your eagerness, willingness to learn, and fun energy has served you well, and helps keep the home fires burning in the rest of us.
It certainly appears to me that this is going to be a banner year on playa, and I wish all of you a great burn!
Cheers!

Re: The Bar 2016 Edition
Morning bar...finally got a chance to sit and catch up here. I have been having a few twitches about being ready for the 3,000 mile drive looming, but after reading this thread, I am starting into the full "oh shit!" mode. The camper is now residing inside my new "space", so it will be an easy cleanup from last year. Yes, from last year. Methinks I might ponder the idea of someone else packing for me and just going with the surprises as I open the bins on-playa. What could possibly go wrong? Business suit? Sure.....
