Fucking awesome news!! I talked to my Landlord and sorted out what was happening. Pretty good chance that I will not be evicted after all. Fucking BOO YAH!!

I admitted it was my fault, asked if he was willing to let me take care of it. He agreed.

Since my before ex moved away, I have had a continuous roll in my two boys lives. I am happy that he is ready to move out, take on all that is adulthood. Saddened at the same time. This will be good for both of us

I just responded on a cardiac arrest.

It was a girl, 2 weeks past her 14th birthday.

She had committed suicide by overdosing on a list of meds that she had besides her, all checked off, as she apparently took each item on the list.

And she left a note for her Mom one of the cops read aloud.

Her brother, and sister, crying in another bedroom.

Fuck! I am so sick of this job sometimes, I don't know what gives me the power to get up everyday, and come back to it.

This one almost did it for me. But here I sit, waiting for the next fucking call.

Ygmir, your not the only one who had to wipe a few tears. 2 seasoned medics also did, as well as a new medic to our company, with a short time on the job, but also a mother to a 13 year old girl, and it hit her hard. What I love about the burner community, is that we know the power of a a good hug, and on calls like this, you just want to hug your partners as well, but here in the default world, often don't due to fear of sexual harrassment, Sigh......

I don't understand why kids feel that suicide is their only option. And that it is forever.

I don't know that I think EMTs are sane--but that's mostly based on one case. I don't know about you, but he loved the work. And it ate into him. It's a fucking strange thing.
I think that adrenaline junkie is part of what makes many emts. So fucking what. Better do that than fucking go out and joy ride.
As for the kid--oh fuck. It's becoming more visible with the emphasis on bullying and queer youth. I don't know how to reach out to kids, but I know they need to hear, from grown-ups they are close to and from grown ups that are in the public eye, that they are valued, that it gets better (thank you, Dan Savage), that there are other choices, that they can access better solutions right now...
I don't know if you're a "hero"; I don't know what that means. I know you are doing an important job that makes things better for all of us, and thank you for doing it.

Sail Man, I bet you have provided important help to many sick and injured people in your career, and maybe even saved a life or two. Helping people when you can is what matters.
I've been hauled away in an ambulance twice in my life, and I was mighty grateful for that help. Thank you for all that you and your colleagues do.

By the way folks, I once had a neighbor who was an EMT. This was at the time when I was hauled away the last time. He said they really appreciate when a patient sends them a thank-you note. Fishy, I can't speak for Scott of course, and the adrenaline thing, yep, thats a valid part of it. But for many of us, it's more then that. It's wanting to help others. It's trying to do our part to make society and our little part of the world better. I'm sure those were part of Scott's reasons as well.

I love the work, but after 21 years, I'm getting tired. But when the day comes to walk away, it will be hard. I know I will miss the siren call.
