how are "bankers" responsible for the loss of military retirement and Veterans benefits? I do agree, with being pissed about losing them, just wondering about your focus.
If things keep going the way they are, there will be more people in tent cities as more and more homes get foreclosed on.
You can thank your bankers for creating the tent cities. They are directly responsible for kicking people out in the streets with their fraudulent lending practices.

JK, no, i didn't talk to anyone. why should i? i have an idea why they are there. you really should consider that at some point their actual presence may become anti-productive. not everyone sees things the way you do, and people get sick of looking at tent cities. there must be other ways of getting your message across.

The Fed manipulates the value of money and over time the interest we pay has gotten so high that budget cuts and increased taxes are put forth as solutions. But it is corporations such as the Federal Reserve along with bought off politicians who have put us in this situation.ygmir wrote:how are "bankers" responsible for the loss of military retirement and Veterans benefits? thank you, that was delicious.

Include the "10 principles" and it would change the whole look and tone of the protests!ygmir wrote:but, you might consider, appearances do matter. RE: LF and some of your responses.
A ramshackle camp, no direction, poor sanitation, no clear message, disregard for civil discourse, rules, and propriety.........to whatever degree these things exist, and, are being portrayed as factual (again, to whatever degree).
These things tend, IMHO, to work against the OWS'ers.
Sure, they engender and excite, a certain segment of society. But, I'd say "average Joe" looks at this and they lose credibility.
I support, the right to public assembly.
I like that OWS has taken hold, to whatever extent.
I like the idea, that, ordinary citizens, are letting gov. know they're "fed up". (I still think gov. is the real enemy, in allowing what has happened, to happen)
What I don't like, is the appearance, that so much of what is going on there, is some sort of "hippy" sit-in/deomonstration/protest/riot, substance abuse, making a mess for others to clean up, not taking responsibility for actions from within their group.
People decry the police, when someone gets beat up. And, they should.
But, it's not all cops who do that. Yet, cops are generalized.
But, those same people, when a certain faction of OWS attendees, destroy, vandalize and cause mayhem, they scream "it's not us, it's only a few, that we don't support".
How, are those two scenarios different?.
How impressive, would it be, to see thousands of people protesting, calmly, politely but forcefully. Articulating and discussing......and, when they leave (at a time of their choosing), the area is no worse for wear.........
I understand, much of what we see, is media driven, for ratings. And, I include that realization.
But, also, the pictures are not fake. Garbage, vandalism, destruction, etc. do exist and are not being addressed, well enough.
I'm just saying, I guess, I'd like to see more respect, for the people, grounds and properties, collaterally impacted by this.
So many attendees, and supporters, say they're sensitive, to the environment. Yet, look at the result.
In my opinion, it takes away from the good work, the good "righteous indignation", that they are trying to foster.
Just a little care, in this arena, IMHO, would go a long way, to garner support, from many "on the fence".
I agree 100% with Yg.

There's a thread for that. But on the subject, does OWS publish a list of names of those who propose or vote on actions by consensus <drink>? We know who's running Burning Man, more or less.FIGJAM wrote:Include the "10 principles" and it would change the whole look and tone of the protests!

Simon. Most of eplaya is a vanity soap box. Those who come into the political threads making commentary like yours reinforce that view.Simon of the Playa wrote:At what point does a thread officially become a vanity soap box?

There's actually some good discussion going on in this OWS thread. Why not join in with your views rather than constantly throwing dog shit around?

People like lemur and Simon will be the ones running around wondering what to do when the revolution hits. They were the sames ones when back as LLQchasm I said that maybe the burn has gotten too big (my very first post - at the time I did not realize the concomitance of my statement). After the last burn, I realized that the "burn" was already outside of the event, but most people not having spoken to others around the country would not see that very easily because they live their lives in an enclosed situation of daily routine.cowboyangel wrote:Simon. As for megalocampia (a condition that Simon said I would have after my first burn), it didn't happen that way. This was no doubt because I had spent significant portions of the previous 4 years living out in the desert southwest between conferences in either my RV or out of the back of my truck. Many of the conditions of Burning Man had become a way of life for me starting in 2007. I almost made it to the American Dream burn of 2008 because I was camping with some OCF folks up at Shady Rest in Oregon but had to cancel due to a tax issue that had come up in Vegas.
When you're boxed in by a job that barely lets you "live"and scrape by, I can see why an event like Burning Man would be such a breath of fresh air and something to die for. Now with the ticket lotto, people are worried running around like chicken little and they are behaving as if they were locked in a closet and suffering from sensory deprivation (which may be why they find flashy blinky lights and fire in the desert so appealing). It's really pretty sad that they can't see the potential outside of the event.

I reckon it's got more to do with this mania for reducing the budget deficit, where we're merely paying down the debt for two wars.Sola Gangsta wrote:The Fed manipulates the value of money and over time the interest we pay has gotten so high that budget cuts and increased taxes are put forth as solutions. Imagine how much this is costing. Are real criminals now thinking of ways to pull off a bank robbery because too many cops took to the streets to stop protesters? Are they making the mistake of concentrating their forces in the wrong areas?

Re: OCCUPYWALLSTREET REINFORCEMENTS!
let me re-iterate for those that dont want to scan thru the 50 some odd pages of propaganda, and i do not attach any negative meaning to the word, it is what it is...I support the OWS movement in action and words...
what i do not support is any group or coalitions that attempt to hijack the anger propelling the movement and catalyze it into violence, under ANY circumstance....this goes for tea-baggers, anarchists, anti-fedders and any others who want to catapult their agenda into power.
PEACEFUL PROTEST without any back-up plans for confrontation...
wishes of peace, not imminentizing the financial eschaton as to be able to scream for the top of the garbage pile "See, i told you so"
that is not constructive, by any means.
as cool as it sounds, we cannot burn everything down and start from scratch, sure, we'll be briefly satisfied as a few well known and well hated heads roll, the public's lust for blood and circus has to be sated, but what do we end up with?
Napolean.
as much as i want to take that well worn route of strife, i think this time, we would be better served to follow gandhi if we want long term results.
ok....back to the Talking Points...
