FUCK! Learned yesterday that a Retrofroliker from last year died of a brain tumor late Tuesday night. This was the kind of girl who drove solo from the Northwest Territories for her virgin burn, volunteered for camp build, and dove in with work gloves on immediately upon arrival. She arrived with a Figjam cooler for her little tent, a bunch of costumes and a huge heart, big smile, and desire to explore whatever the playa had to offer, including having a playa wedding at the Elvis Wedding Chapel.
She was all set to repeat this year, and then she called when she was on her way & said she wasn't coming; her car had broken down. In reality, she had been getting increasingly confused, and had left without her tent or passport, so turned around & went to the doctor instead.
She had a brain tumor the size of a lemon. She was only 34. Sweet dreams Amy, you are loved.

Fuck, a member of our fire conclave committed suicide. Right before a big burner wedding; I could tell some folks were subdued, and wondered why others were not present. I thought their absence was due to the downpour we were having, unusual for Utah, lots of trouble on the roads. No, a dear friend had died scant hours before. Some folks knew and held quiet so as not to spoil the celebration for all. Which I am okay with, it was just such a fucking shock the next morning.

It reminds me of when I was a kid, hearing my parents discussing me downstairs, deciding which one would talk to me. Yeah, I never had reason to look forward to those talks. I imagine that is what the pm is like. I don't think I will read them. The mods have an open forum right here, and now they are filling up my pm box because bitching me out here in the open isn't enough for them. Sorry about being such a whiner on eplaya, in words, but it's not like I actually did anything physically on the playa to adversely effect the Burn, like leave moop or run a business. And the burn is going to be a potential source of conflict among the lot of us, because it matters to us. I don't like the plug and plays either, well, certainly not the ones that treat people the way it's depicted in the sherpa's story. Is that truthful? I don't know. I don't know that I have the resources to pursue the sort of investigation that it would take to settle it.
