Re: The Bar 2016 Edition
Once, a few years back, Larry talked about the theme before official announcement at the Artumnal dinner, and I think every year since people start circulating the news it was announced. It's possible, but I don't believe it was talked about at dinner last night. I ran into a bunch of friends who were there, and most of them would have said something as conversations invariably drifted to next year's event.
I'm sorry to have missed you too, Marty, and sorrier still to hear about the break-in. 3am though, wow... it was a long day for us, I think we ended up heading home shortly after midnight.
The event was a lot of fun, and the illumated cubes at the side of the main stage were really mesmerizing. The auction area was both over-crowded, and unfortunately not very well organized. Poor Killbuck had taken pains to make sure his 10 foot wide banner made it to SF on time and it had made it to the venue, but somehow it had been misplaced and wasn't on display at the event. Pandorra's earrings looked great on the little display she had for it, but unfortunately all of the jewelry items were shoehorned into a poorly lit side room. It took her more than half an hour to find it while actively looking for it, and others we'd talked to didn't even know there were any jewelry pieces in the auction. Hopefully by the time the auction finished up it had been seen and bid on a few times, I hope the whole auction helped Burning Man Project raise a bundle.

Artumnal was GREAT,
I started at 8AM and although I tried to leave (with my ride) I just could not because the music and the energy changed the later it got,
Somewhere in the wee hours of the morning I did get home thanks to uber.
I am thankful I love you

Hey all, good to hear about all of the fun out there on the coast! Never a dull moment it seems. Sorry to hear about some thugs messing with your car though Marty.
Staying busy here, though unfortunately mostly work and chores, and not enough of my own art at the present time. Always there is this little scratching sound, somewhere deep down, insisting that I should be making art, instead of this day to day stuff. At least I'm still able to find a few minutes to do some loose sketches nearly every day. And on occasion, because they are done so fast and loose, they capture some bit of essence that might be lost given a more concerted effort, and seeing those little sparks appear before my eyes is a reward in itself. Meanwhile, I do intend to block out some time to start building some art for the burn. Never too soon to start in on that, eh?

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
A pause to all ponder how fortunate most of us are! So for one day, we can quit bitching and just wallow in our good fortune to know each other and feel the warmth of family, friends, and even not so friends. Eat drink and make merry (providing merry agrees!)

Hey, YG, I'll be there in 15 minutes! Hope that you are fully recovered and back to your usual safety third shenanigans. But seriously be careful out there, the life you save may be the one we all love ..... yours!

Happy Turkey Day to all!

Re: The Bar 2016 Edition
I worked half a day. Cooked the turkey last night. Boiling down the stock and bones now. Made dressing (which I prefer to call stuffing, even though I haven't cooked it in the bird in ages.) then I thought, "Well, I have some sweet potatoes, might as well make those too, and gravy." It's all a leftover feast from inception. Nobody here but me. I'll try next year for company, that's the best way. I knew I had to have turkey, though. I am thankful to be able to feast, and freeze leftovers, and first Evers.

Re: The Bar 2016 Edition
I'm dubious about the idea of their supporting wildlife. I think the water managers don't really care about supporting wildlife--certainly CVP and the California state agencies have been perfectly fine with driving the fish in the delta extinct... Every diversion to a wildlife sanctuary seems to engender a controversy. And I'm not convinced that we can build a water pipeline that crosses the Rockies, the Sierras, and I don't know what other mountain ranges--how expensive will it be to run the pumps? All that aside, I think putting solar over some portion of the canals and aqueducts is worth investigating. But the twin tunnels? Oh, that's a dreadful idea.trilobyte wrote:I figure the reason they left the aqueduct/rivers open as they run through the state was not only cost of construction/maintenance, and that by having it open air it made for better evap and supporting wildlife.

Re: The Bar 2016 Edition
A little belated, but here you go...

Yeah, rethinking I doubt there was much of a thought given to wildlife conservation, too. We (as a people) only barely give that stuff much consideration now, and that infrastructure project was way before much thought was put into potential impact. It had to be all about being cheaper to build and maintain.
I hope everyone had a great weekend, holiday or otherwise. Pandorra and I have been up to our eyeballs in creative pursuits, trying to build and create things for a new virtual world that's starting to come up to speed. While the Second Life virtual world still has nearly a million people a month spending time "in world" (logging in and playing around in it), I think there's room for what might be next. Higher tech, but less technical to use and easier for people to use overall. We've not only been having fun trying to figure out our stuff, but chatting with some of the other creators and makers who are doing the same. So even though she had plenty of time off work, I think we were both up and at it early and working on stuff until late at night every day of the week. It's a good kind of busy
