I don't think I'd call Trey an Hawiian Hunk, but then again, I've never seen him in a Sarong. She has joined a small group of like-minds over on Trey's board, the 3-playa (I think). I go there from time to time, but never speak. I love the vastness of the Eplaya. And I have come to think of it as my home away from home, even though I lurk here more than I talk. I don't have the time I use to have for replies. I like the newbies they are very cool, and seem to be friends waiting to be loved.

No it's quite sad really. I guess the upside to them is, if someone does not fit their criterior they can just give them the boot. The downside (IMHO) is the smallness of the group, I think it's around 5 or 6 people. Whatever chimes your gong.

The other upside is only the smartest and the strongest survive here on this board.

The down side, Those that survive as in real life are out numbered.

(a) it's not my board. i host it, but it is unadministered, and belongs to anyone who cares to sign up for it.

(b) unless she's developed a completely different and coherent identity, she doesn't frequent the 3playa.

(c) bulletin boards are not like physical space - being on one does not preclude participation in another. implying that it does is indicative of an narrow tribalization oriented mindset.

I know exactly where she went, and why.

She didn't make me promise not to tell, but until she tells me to, I won't.

Your characterization may be a bit off the mark. III could provide the exact statistics, but I think it is accurate to state that there are 40+ regular posters over there, and the total post count in all threads exceeds that of this "vast" site.

Wherever Alice is, I want her to know she is quite wonderful.
The first part of R. Stewarts lyrics do not apply, but the refrain & better part (to me), the spirit rather than body, is what i know of dear Alice.

"You're in my Heart"
(refrain)
Rod Stewart

You’re in my heart, you’re in my soul
You’ll be my breath should I grow old
You are my lover, you’re my best friend
You’re in my soul
My love for you is immeasurable
My respect for you immense
You’re ageless, timeless, lace and fineness
You’re beauty and elegance
You’re a rhapsody, a comedy
You’re a symphony and a play
You’re every love song ever written
But honey what do you see in me

That's pretty good. The stat table that is.

Eplaya needs something like that.

I don't know Nipples, but....

Does seem to be one of the only to coherently use a Rod Stewart song.

Actually I made that comment when I was a little intoxicated but I still stand behind it. The group on the 3 playa will flat out tell you if your wrong, and if you keep screwing up the conversation just moves on around you. You suddenly wake up and realized you got passed by....

In any event I like both boards and wish both well.

i had a number of possible answers lined up
I skipped it myself but I have to say one thing and ask another:

The first statement is wrong. I haven't seen anyone ignored on the 3playa.
Especially the person that made the statement.

TP, Have you read enough of the other board to make your statement?

Edit to add I would just as soon not sling mud at each other.

I had to change this message because I did'nt want to sound instigating.

I felt the message the way it was presented before was.

I was ignored when my behavior went out of line. Now that things have corrected themselves it's much better. At first glance it's not obvious...but it's there. In any event I'd be lost without the 3 playa and the people over there. You can't ask for a better group of people, even if they have some interesting quirks from time to time.

Shoot. Alice isn't here to answer our questions any more!

I do think there is some difference in the impact of a given post on the two boards. Maybe it's the smiley's, maybe its the avatars, or the tag lines, I dunno. But I do think its easier to scroll past something on the 3playa.

Two more possible answers

Post by Guest » Thu Feb 05, 2004 8:09 am

Two other possibilities as to why scrolling past may be easier on the 3playa.

The pages load faster, so its easier to move on.

And over there, it seems to be a community that is only tangentially related to Burning Man. If someone fills it up with blankety-blank, participants don't see it as harming the event in the desert.

I was going to PM you this but I could'nt find anything that should be kept private about what I am about to post here that others beside yourself could'nt address. This is a response to your PM "why":

Understand something.

The thread is "go ask alice."

Please explain to me what in this thread is "only tangentially related to Burning Man"
about "go ask Alice" other than a fun read.

Your post is looking like someone that is filling the thread up with "blankety-blank" complaint about the board.

And to top it off your post, my post or the thread has nothing to do with anything that "seems participants don't see it as harming the event in the desert." what's that about?

one question.....are you drinking or something? no insult intended. this just does'nt seem like you.

Also, I am really very happy for you and those that enjoy other BM Ecommunities.

something I want to quote from an intelligent female eplayan several months ago about the new eplaya:

i've definitely seen messageboards ruined by influxes of new people. as i've said before, i think the new eplaya is easier to use and will encourage more people, but with more people you also get more assholes, more trolls, more everything, the volume is just turned up.

the most important thing to note is that the high volume posters, and the people perceived as old school or regulars, they for the most part dictate the tone of the messageboard. it's a powerful thing. it is important for old timers and others emotionally invested in this place to assert a bit of gentle dominance over the newbies if you have clear ideas about how you want the tone of the messageboard to be. otherwise, the trolls will do it for you
.

olivia
I read or try to read everything on this board and scroll past nothing. no matter how much I dont like what has been posted.
listen,
You can't please everyone all of the time. I know I never will,
but at least I compromise when it comes to anyone replying to my posts.

How can one such as alice say anything about 'love' when she herself doesnt know whats good for her in the sense of love or significant other.

just a thought

The answer is really quite simple. A mistake in knowing what's good for oneself does not make a person a mistake.
