Re: Time for a Happy Thread
New job acquired!
While I loved some things about being a personal trainer (working with my clients to save/change lives) I hated how much of the job came down to sales and the hours were awful. Plus, I felt like I was wasting my education (engineering degree) and a good deal of my potential.
Now I'll be working for a company that invents and manufactures research equipment used in the battle to cure cancer and auto-immune disorders!
Better pay, stable hours, no more sales, more meaningful work, and I'm back in the science/tech world where I arguably belong.
Today is a good day.

Boss is a burner. The first thing he asked me about in the interview was the "trip" in late August that I mentioned I was committed to taking when I applied.Thecatman wrote:Congrats on the new job. Being new, will they give time off?

Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

Well, there's one box of food packed for E-11 which will not need to be repacked, it can go right out to TTITD.

I know the feeling. My 'emergency box' of food has been with me since April, a box of MREs I purchased 'just in case' for Interfuse.
Some day when I'm feeling like I need a little 'extra energy' I might open them. They have about 2000 calories PER MEAL. That's 100% of the US recommended daily allowance per meal. If nothing else, they have little packs of instant coffee in them that have 3X the caffiene of normal coffee, and some have cute little bottles of tabasco sauce. I ate two per day on playa when we were working on the Temple of Community in '08....man, you really needed the extra energy to work all day in the sun. I'll never forget those days.....magic all their own while we were out there, with friends and working towards a wonderful goal.
And I always have a case or two of extra water.

Re: Time for a Happy Thread
The RV I'm borrowing from a friend was sitting on empty. I saw this morning that gas is down to 3.22 a gallon here In Indianapolis so during lunch I ran over to his place and got the rv filled up!
A week ago it was hovering around 3.89 per gallon and the RV holds 80 gallon a fill up.
Sadly I doubt it's going to get much cheaper the closer we get to Labor day.
4300 miles round trip. 8mpg. This burning man experience better be worth it!!

I've done it 5 times already, 3900 mile round-trip, 15mpg without trailer, 12 mpg with. 22 gal. fill-up.
I've seen gas at $5.00/gallon at Bruno's in Gerlach, limited to 40 bucks.
Every time I've been has been a separate and superb experience. Just remember....no expectations, and you'll be rewarded beyond your wildest imagination IF you open your heart and mind.

Re: Time for a Happy Thread
Oh I'm honestly not worried. I was being a bit sarcastic.
I've found that expectations rise up to the occasion of me being there!
I'm one of those annoyingly perky people the universe seems to go out of it's way to accommodate.
the only pebble in my shoe at this moment is an annoyingly flighty girlwhoisafriend is suddenly dodging the "are you in or out for this trip" question.
An issue we are supposed to discuss this evening (then again I've been trying to discuss it since July 1 so who knows if tonight I get her conversationally cornered or not.)
I really have leeway until the tickets arrive to get this hammered out with her but I'd prefer to be making some purchases now instead of waiting until the last minute.

My trip was about as long as yours, very much worth it.
