Re: The Bar 2014 Edition
Thirty minutes and counting.
The router has been rebooted. I have kicked everyone else off the network. Browser cache purged. System rebooted.
I pee'd. Twice.
I have my bottle of water handy. A pencil. French fries. Small cat on lap for luck.
I have been warming-up my space-bar thumbs and button-pushy index finger. Exercising.
I am Ready. I am Zen. I have become the Flame. Positivity surrounds me and I walk in beauty.
SO HURRY THE FUCK UP AND START THE DAMN SALE ALREADY!!!!
(ahem. sorry...)

Re: The Bar 2014 Edition
That stat can be misleading, since we've periodically made changes to the length of time it's looking back (it hits the database hard if we let it look back too far). It's shorter now than it's been in the past, but yeah - lots of people! I'm happy to report that the site didn't appear to bat an eyelash - the load balancer's been doing a great job of making sure we have the resources we need.
Huzzah, and congrats to all those who got tickets! Minimal hiccups, and very fast sale (approximately 42 minutes). Time to change out of my jammies and head back home for cocktails!

Take your pick, Trilo:

I'm surprised that the "most users online" analysis is more taxing on the database than remembering and checking when every user last looked at every thread. On other forums, I've heard that's both the most information and the most "stress" for a forum database.

I knew I wouldn't have access to the internet most of the day, so my sweetie told me he'd pick up my ticket when he ordered his. Just got back to my computer and phone and a message from him that he had purchased our tickets. Squee! I'm actually going to Burning Man. Now I can start crafting with abandon.

Ah, home and comfy again. The sound system is turned up to something that should register on the richter scale, I've poured my first drink, and time to kick back a bit. Here are a couple pics from the day, I thought you guys might get a kick out of them...

Feel a bit queazy.
Years off are hardest on the stomach during certain events... like ticket sales. I come in here yearning to see the happy Horrays of everyone who was successful in the sale, but with each one I also get the gut kick that that's one more person (or in the Calamity Sisters case, 2 more people) that I'm not going to be smiling at in person and running around getting into trouble with this year...
In a strange turn of events tho, I got an envelope from BRC in my mailbox yesterday, addressed to Zipper. A beautiful card, containing an actual burning man ticket... I was way confused until I realized it was from the Census team, and was a Cargo Cult ticket with "Thanks for your fire" cleverly included into the information on the back of the ticket.
I was touched. Really touched. ...but it did make me sad that I won't be joining them -- or any of you -- this year.
...Looks like uneven years only is establishing itself as a trend here.

Re: The Bar 2014 Edition
I went to my first NYC regional happy hour on a whim last night. Had a great time.
Quick story. We acquired a new property in December with very little notice and time to effectively transition. Two weeks before Christmas. Absolutely fucking insane. We kept on the management team, and they've been doing an amazing job under trying circumstances. No one had told them whether they still had jobs if it sold. They were updating resumes. So last time we're up there, we took them out to a post-closing dinner at a nice restaurant to thank them and get to know them better. Eventually it came out that I go to Burning Man. Probably a discussion of where one likes to vacation, and I don't hide what I do. It comes out anyway eventually because I talk about it constantly as the event approaches. I explained it, and thought that was it.
Today the GM calls me and we discuss the January financial reporting package. Then he says, "So. I just wanted to make sure you got your tickets yesterday. I understand they sold out in record time." He apparently has been following news about Burning Man now. I don't know if he's just trying to kiss up to me, or if he's interested in the event, but it was out of the blue and sweet.

So, Delle... next year IS Uneven!!!! Start planning now, because you're going!! I'll even fly up there and personally kidnap you and Ken if that's what it takes. (This is your big sister speaking now, standing akimbo, and using her Big Sister Serious Voice.)delle wrote:Feel a bit queazy.
